4/23/25	Mets' Juan Soto makes jarring announcement amid slow start. The New York Mets gave him the richest deal in sports history, and the hope was for him to be one of the best players in Major League Baseball, just like he's been for the past few seasons. Unfortunately, Soto has struggled for parts of the year, currently hitting .233 with just three home runs. There have been parts in Soto's career where he doesn't hit home runs at the rate that many like to make it seem, but the batting average is concerning, as he's typically an elite hitter in that regard. The New York Yankees gave up a massive haul in December of 2023 when they traded for superstar Juan Soto from the San Diego Padres. While it would be hard to say the Yankees "regret" the deal because Soto lifted them to a World Series berth last season, they certainly didn't acquire him with the hope he'd only be in town for one year. Juan Soto hit his first home run since the opening weekend of the season and the New York Mets beat the slumping Minnesota Twins 5-1 on Monday night. Pete Alonso and Luisangel Acuña had two hits apiece for the Mets, who have won nine of 11. Alonso delivered an early RBI single, and Acuña stole a base and scored twice while reaching safely three times from the No. 9 spot in the batting order.
