4/23/25 | Cubs Kyle Tucker gets $300 million contract update after extension news. The Chicago Cubs are off to a strong start in the 2025 season, surprising much of the baseball world by emerging as one of the best offensive teams in the big leagues. As of Wednesday, the Cubs lead all of Major League Baseball in total hits, runs, on-base percentage and more. Since joining the Cubs in a surprise deal with the Houston Astros, Tucker has slashed .320/.420/.650 with an MLB-leading 24 runs and 25 RBI, as well as 32 total hits. The Cubs swapped third baseman Isaac Paredes as well as top prospects Hayden Wesneski and Cam Smith to acquire Tucker, which was a bit of a surprise because Tucker has the chance to become a free agent at the end of this season. 3/11/25 | Fatal flaw Houston Astros must address for 2025 MLB season. The Houston Astros' infield is going to look different in 2025. New acquisitions Isaac Paredes and Christian Walker are a major reason why, but so too is what the team decided to do with franchise mainstay Jose Altuve. As Altuve's defense at second base has cratered over the last few years and the Astros pursued a reunion with Alex Bregman, the thought came to move the 34-year-old to left field. With Bregman now with the Boston Red Sox, Altuve is still putting in work in the outfield, where he is expected to play most of the time in 2025. 2/26/25 | Houston Astros May Have Landed Future Superstar In Offseason Blockbuster Trade. The Houston Astros were in the headlines all offseason long for a multitude of reasons. With arguably the best player in all of free agency coming from their roster, it made sense for the Astros to be at the center of the conversation. In return, they would receive their likely current Bregman replacement in Isaac Paredes as well as potentially their long-term answer at the hot corner as well. When Cam Smith instantly became the top prospect in the Astros organization upon arrival, it was a known fact that he has tremendous potential and could contribute in the big leagues sooner rather than later. Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter recently went through each team's situation at the hot corner to find what it will look like for the next five years. The Astros have good answers for both the immediate and down the road. Newcomer Isaac Paredes, acquired from the Chicago Cubs in the Kyle Tucker trade, is expected to be the Opening Day starter at third. Source: https://www.si.com/mlb/astros/news/houston-astros-... |
2/11/25 | Houston Astros Have One of Baseball's 'Biggest Bust Candidates' This Season. The Houston Astros lineup is going to feature several new faces in 2025. One of the players who will be assuming a major role will be Isaac Paredes, who was acquired from the Chicago Cubs in the offseason blockbuster that sent star right fielder Kyle Tucker out of town. The Cubs acquired him ahead of the trade deadline from the Tampa Bay Rays and traded him after an underwhelming 52-game sample size. In Chicago, Paredes recorded a slash line of .223/.325/.307 as his power numbers disappeared with only three home runs and six doubles in 212 plate appearances. 1/26/25 | Chicago Cubs 'Love' All-Star Slugger, But Contract Length is Sticking Point. The Chicago Cubs traded Isaac Paredes to the Houston Astros earlier this offseason as a way to clear the path for Matt Shaw to fight for the opening-day job. During an appearance on 670 The Score in Chicago, Bruce Levine, who reports on the Cubs, said the franchise loves free-agent slugger Alex Bregman, who is reportedly re-engaging with the Houston Astros on a contract. 1/13/25 | Red Sox predicted to acquire Astros two-time World Series champion for $120 million. The Houston Astros have been resigned to fate for nearly a month now, but they still don't know exactly what that fate will be. In effect, they closed a deal on a Bregman reunion before he signed anywhere else. With Isaac Paredes at third base and Christian Walker at first base, the Astros are set to begin a new year without Bregman for the first time since he debuted in 2016. 1/09/25 | Houston Astros Secure Deal With Former World Series MVP Ahead of Arbitration Deadline. The Houston Astros have had eight players to deal with contract negotiations with before arbitration begins, they just settled with a very important player. Chandler Rome of the The Athletic announced on Thursday afternoon that the Astros reached a $4.1 million deal with shortstop Jeremy Peña to avoid arbitration. Peña has received the third-highest deal so far with Mauricio Dubón and Isaac Paredes each received a little bit more money. 12/22/24 | Uncustomed Heroes of 2024: Rays. In 2024, the Tampa Bay Rays finally saw consequences for being cheap sons-of-guns. Not only did their latest cobbled-together budget team fail to make the playoffs, resulting in, for the first time since 2017, a non-competitive Rays team, but the top two teams in baseball were all teams that got to the end thanks to their payrolls. The Dodgers won by spending the most money this year, and thus the Rays lost because they refused to spend enough. Now without Isaac Paredes, and with the potential to try and flip Jeffrey Springs and Pete Fairbanks, with only the preexisting star power of Brandon Lowe, Yandy Diaz and Ryan Pepiot...and with virtually every other team in the division planning on upgrading. 12/21/24 | Could Chicago Cubs Pull Off Major Trade for Toronto Blue Jays Star Bo Bichette?. The Chicago Cubs could potentially use a new third baseman. After trading away Isaac Paredes in the deal to acquire Kyle Tucker, the Cubs do not have any clear-cut options at that position. Matt Shaw seems like the best bet to end up being the starter, but he is far from a sure thing for the 2025 season. Could they consider making another big move this offseason to bring in a new third baseman? Source: https://www.si.com/mlb/cubs/news/could-chicago-cub... |
12/20/24 | Astros predicted to part ways with 9-time All-Star after signing Christian Walker. A tumultuous offseason for the Houston Astros continued on Friday. Isaac Paredes should provide some thump at third base, assuming Alex Bregman's days in Houston are over. In addition to Bregman's potential departure, All-Star right fielder Kyle Tucker has already walked out the door via trade. Free-agent starting pitcher Justin Verlander, a nine-time American League All-Star, seems likely to soon join the list. Source: https://www.sportingnews.com/us/mlb/houston-astros... |
