4/18/25 Tigers' Jake Rogers, recovering from injury, turns 30 on the IL. This is not how Jake Rogers envisioned spending his 30th birthday. Instead of playing, the Detroit Tigers catcher is doing... nothing. Rogers said he woke up Thursday morning feeling as good as he has since first suffering the injury on April 8. “I've been doing a lot of rehab, small exercises, just working back into things,” Rogers said.

4/06/25 Tigers duo needed only eye contact to catch White Sox runner snoozing. Sometimes, the most important communication on a baseball field doesn't require words. Detroit Tigers catcher Jake Rogers had a hunch he could catch White Sox baserunner Brooks Baldwin snoozing at first base. First baseman Spencer Torkelson thought so, too. Rogers and Tork locked eyes, and the play was on, without anyone else on the field knowing it.

4/04/25 Watch Keegan Michael Key throw a strike from the mound at Tigers Opening Day. Comedian, actor and Michigan native Keegan Michael Key can add major league pitcher to his repertoire after throwing a near-perfect first pitch at Opening Day in Detroit. The star of “Key and Peele” and “Mad TV” wore a custom jersey with the number 53 as he took the mound for the ceremonial first pitch that landed squarely in the glove of Jake Rogers. Key then leapt into an emphatic celebration before pumping up fans near the Tigers dugout. Key, who regularly appears on the Detroit Lions sideline, spent his pre-game time chatting with Tigers pitchers Tarik Skubal and Will Vest and signing a series of game balls.

3/07/25 'Everybody needs to go home': Remembering the day COVID brought baseball to a halt. One day, they were getting ready for games. Five years ago this week, spring training shut down across Major League Baseball, ushering in months of uncertainty. Seemingly overnight, a routine spring training turned into chaos. Catcher Jake Rogers, the only current Detroit Tigers player in big-league camp in Lakeland five years ago, loaded up his truck with extra gas cans and drove 18 hours straight home to Texas.

1/02/25 Tigers add veteran catcher to bolster Triple-A depth. The Detroit Tigers made it clear last month that their 2025 catching tandem was already settled: Jake Rogers and Dillon Dingler will handle duties at the big-league level. The Tigers answered that question by signing Brian Serven to a minor-league deal. Serven, 29, has played in parts of three big-league seasons, including a brief stint with the Toronto Blue Jays in 2024.

Here is the second installment of The Detroit News' final assessment of the Detroit Tigers' 2024 season, grading position players. The first installment, grading the Tigers' pitching staff, can be found here. ? Jake Rogers, .197/.255/.352, 71 OPS-plus: His value to this baseball team so far exceeds his slash line, it almost renders it inconsequential. Nobody had a bigger impact on Tarik Skubal in-game than Rogers, who caught all of his starts.

10/04/24 Who has the edge? A position-by-position breakdown of Tigers vs. Guardians in ALDS.. If you haven't paid much attention to the Tigers, it's easy to dismiss catcher Jake Rogers, because of the barely .600 OPS. Spencer Torkelson, a former 1-1 draft pick, isn't the offensive threat he was at the plate for the second half of 2023, and the Tigers are likely going to have to wait until 2025 to see him bust out again.

9/30/24 Who has the edge? A position-by-position breakdown of the Tigers-Astros Wild Card Series. The Tigers roll with Jake Rogers, who got his start in the Astros system, and came over in the Justin Verlander trade in 2017. Tarik Skubal's been a stud in this Cy Young season, though Rogers deserves some credit there. For the Astros, it's Yainer Diaz, who's second on the team in RBIs (84) to go with 16 home runs.

9/27/24 Detroit Tigers clinch 2024 playoffs with win over White Sox. It would have been an improbable sentence to write in early August but the Detroit Tigers are in the playoffs for the first time in a decade after beating the Chicago White Sox 4-1 at a packed Comerica Park on Friday. The Tigers took the lead in a rather unconventional way: with a bases-loaded wild pitch to score Jake Rogers and a sacrifice fly from Matt Vierling to drive in Parker Meadows to take a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the 5th. White Sox right fielder Zach DeLoach hit a solo home run in the top of the 6th. Riley Greene doubled off the center field wall in the bottom of the 7th to drive in Andy Ibáñez and a second wild pitch bounced off the plate and went over the backstop netting to score Vierling.

9/26/24 'He brings the best out of me': Count catcher Jake Rogers among Tigers' difference-makers. There are few things as near and dear to Tigers manager AJ Hinch's heart than the catching position. “The catcher is an integral part of the success of the team,” he said. It is the most important position to reset from offense to defense, regardless if it's good or bad. Especially, as he pointed out, the way his catchers have been playing the position.
