1/14/25 Why the Colorado Rockies current stagnation makes sense. After enduring the two worst seasons in franchise history, the biggest news of the offseason has been the acquisition of second baseman Thairo Estrada who is, statistically, at best a replacement for the player they already had in Brendan Rodgers. Another answer, one much closer to the truth of the matter, is that it doesn't make a ton of sense for the Rockies to spend whatever resources they have trying to improve the MLB roster as it currently stands. Despite very little fanfare or media coverage surrounding it, in just two seasons the Rockies have gone from having zero Top 100 Prospects to having the second most of any team in baseball. Neither you, nor I, nor the Rockies can be sure who from the group of pitchers that features Chase Dollander, Sean Sullivan, Carson Palmquist, and Brody Brecht will pan out.

11/03/24 Signs Point to San Francisco Giants Moving On From Injured Infielder This Offseason. Free agent Thairo Estrada, once a promising and versatile piece in the San Francisco Giants lineup, is not expected to return for 2025 after a difficult 2024 season. Following his strong three-year tenure in the Bay Area, the Giants hoped Estrada could remain an impactful contributor in 2024, particularly at second base and potentially shortstop. Estrada's offensive performance in 2024 was a far cry from his production in previous seasons. Known for his blend of speed, contact ability, and occasional power, all factors that combined to give Estrada three consecutive seasons of an OPS+ over 100, Estrada slumped significantly in batting average and on-base percentage, which dropped him lower in the lineup as the season progressed.

8/31/24 San Francisco Giants Make Surprising Move With Struggling Veteran Infielder. The San Francisco Giants sent infielder Thairo Estrada to Triple-A Sacramento on Friday, a move that came two days after the team made the surprising decision to place him on waivers. Major League teams are now using the waiver wire to expose certain players near the end of August for the purposes of giving them a chance to move on to a contender. The Giants would not have saved much and risked giving up a player with controllable years. After he cleared waivers, the Giants could have released him outright and allowed him to become a free agent.

8/30/24 SF Giants outright struggling infielder to Triple-A Sacramento. The San Francisco Giants outrighted struggling infielder Thairo Estrada to Triple-A Sacramento on Friday as part of a lineup shakeup ahead of their series opener against the Miami Marlins at Oracle Park. The Giants also recalled infielder/outfielder Brett Wisely from Triple and placed left-handed reliever Tyler Matzek on unconditional relief waivers. Estrada entered Friday's game hitting just .217 with a .590 OPS in 96 games, well off the pace he set last season when he hit .271 with a .731 OPS in 120 games.

8/19/24 SF Giants add Thairo Estrada to struggling lineup, option Brett Wisely. After one of the Giants' first games of the season, Bob Melvin sat in his office in the bowels of Petco Park and raved about the potential All-Star season their second baseman had ahead of him. It hasn't panned out that way for Thairo Estrada, who was activated from the injured list before Monday's series opener against the White Sox, but perhaps not coincidentally the 28-year-old from Bejuma, Venezuela, will tell you that was the last time he was at full health. “First of all I'm very happy to be back,” Estrada said through team interpreter Erwin Higueros. Before a sprained left wrist sidelined him for the past three weeks, Estrada was batting .216/.249/.353 — a .601 OPS — and on pace for career lows in almost every offensive category.

7/26/24 San Francisco Giants Place Veteran Infielder on IL, Recall Promising Youngster. The San Francisco Giants have placed second baseman Thairo Estrada on the IL with a wrist injury, and have brought Casey Schmitt back as the corresponding move. This marks the second time this season that Estrada has hit the IL. On June 28, he was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left wrist sprain and didn't return until July 9. In 10 games played, Estrada collected just three hits in 34 at-bats with a triple and four RBI.
