Minter picked up his fourth hold of the season in the New York Mets' 4-1 win over the St. Louis Cardinals on Thursday night. The lefthander entered the game in the eighth inning. Minter made short work of the Cardinals' hitters. Minter got Lars Nootbaar to ground out, Wilson Contreras to fly out and Brendan Donovan to line out to end the inning.

4/06/25 Mets Notebook: Dedniel Nuñez still building up in Triple-A, Luis Torrens out Sunday. While Dedniel Nuñez continues to get work down in Triple-A, the Mets bullpen has been just fine without him to start the season. The five earned runs given up by the Mets' relief corps through the first eight games of the season are the fewest allowed in the league (2-0, 1.47 ERA). Left-handers A.J. Minter and Danny Young have each allowed two, and right-handed long man Jose Butto has allowed one. Right-hander Huascar Brazobán has thrown 7 1/3 scoreless innings and Max Kranick, another righty, has pitched 5 2/3 without allowing a run to start his first big league campaign since 2022.

LUCIE — A.J. Minter was far from sure when camp opened if he would be ready for Opening Day with the Mets, but following his Monday relief appearance he was all but certain it will happen. 3/22/25 Mets' Carlos Mendoza gives updates on A.J. Minter, Dedniel Núñez. When New York Mets offseason addition A.J. Minter underwent season-ending hip surgery last August, doctors told him his recovery would take between 7-9 months. Minter, 31, entered the game in the seventh inning against the Washington Nationals and retired the side on just 10 pitches, recording one strikeout. An inning later, he joined Gary Cohen and Todd Zeile on the SNY broadcast and said that while he feels great, he is not yet ready to say whether he will be ready for Opening Day. After the game, Mets manager Carlos Mendoza revealed that Minter is scheduled for one more outing on Monday before spring training wraps up.

LUCIE — If A.J. Minter can take away anything positive from the left hip problems that ultimately led to surgery last summer, it's that he learned how to pitch beyond just overpowering hitters. It was midway through the 2023 season when Minter realized something had to change. The lefty reliever was struggling for the Braves, with his fastball velocity lagging. After months of recovering from hip surgery, when Minter walked into the Mets' clubhouse at Clover Park on Wednesday, he saw his name listed as “available” against the St. Louis Cardinals in the team's lineup card. “I'm in there,” Minter told NJ Advance Media with a smile. In the fifth inning, after left-hander, Paul Blackburn had tossed four perfect innings against the Cardinals at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium, Mets manager Carlos Mendoza called his on Minter for the fifth inning.

Minter, who joined the Mets on a two-year, $22 million, underwent hip surgery last summer. According to the New York Post, Minter says he's slightly ahead of schedule in his rehab. “The training staff has been excellent, and it's their job to kind of tell me no because I am not very good at saying no,” Minter said.

2/19/25 Mets' new relief ace: Newly engaged and with a rehab plan to return to mound. A.J. Minter's last six months have been a whirlwind that culminated with the Mets adding him as their biggest bullpen addition this offseason. In August, he had hip surgery, which he has been rehabbing since. At the start of 2025, he got engaged, and later in January, he left his lifelong team, the Atlanta Braves, for their rival on a two-year deal. Minter has increased his pitch count to about “20ish,” and he plans on throwing about four more bullpens before graduating to facing hitters.

1/27/25 Mets have plenty of options to make another bullpen addition. The Mets likely are not finished adding to their bullpen this winter. After signing A.J. Minter this month, team officials are still evaluating the market with the idea that there is room for an additional high-leverage reliever, according to an industry source, and options are somewhat plentiful. Minter arrived on a two-year deal worth $22 million — the only significant money the Mets have spent on the bullpen this winter — to help fill the pressing need for a left-hander. 1/26/25 Mets New Reliever A.J. Minter Roasts Yankees Fans. On January 17, it was announced that the New York Mets had signed former Atlanta Braves reliever A.J. Minter to a two-year, $22 million contract. This signing made a ton of sense for the Mets, who were in desperate need of a left-handed reliever this offseason. While the 31-year-old missed much of the 2024 season due to several injuries, he still produced a very solid 2.62 ERA and 35 strikeouts over 39 appearances (34.1 innings pitched) when he was available for Atlanta. Minter was present during the Mets' Amazin' Day event at Citi Field on January 25.

1/26/25 How injured Mets are progressing as spring training approaches. Several recovering Mets players are taking steps forward of varying length. A.J. Minter is hopeful he can be ready by Opening Day; Ronny Mauricio is progressing (but not sprinting); Dedniel Nunez is throwing and “healthy,” manager Carlos Mendoza said; and Paul Blackburn has returned to a mound. About two weeks before spring training begins, Minter himself said he is feeling “really good” following hip surgery, and Mendoza offered generally optimistic outlooks for a trio of returning Mets players who ended the season on the injured list.
