4/04/25 Yes, the Mariners really have two guys named Luis Castillo, and they're both righty pitchers. On Thursday, the Mariners started a right-handed pitcher named Luis Castillo. On Friday, the Mariners also started a right-handed pitcher named Luis Castillo. The Thursday starter was three-time All-Star Luis Miguel Castillo, formerly of the Cincinnati Reds, likely familiar to many baseball fans.

4/03/25 Mariners calling another Luis Castillo up to join rotation (yes, really). Between “The Rock” who shares his name and “The Rock” tourist attraction just a few miles away, Mariners pitcher Luis F. Castillo is about to make his major-league starting debut in maybe the most interesting fashion imaginable. For the second game in a row, the Mariners are expected to have a Luis Castillo start a game for them. Luis F. Castillo is expected to be promoted from Triple-A Tacoma on Friday to make a spot start for the Mariners' 2025 road opener against the San Francisco Giants at Oracle Park, located just a few miles away from Alcatraz Island, the famed San Francisco Bay penitentiary known as “The Rock.”

3/15/25 Luis Castillo, Logan Gilbert progress in Mariners' split-squad losses. Making his fourth start of the spring, Luis Castillo worked into the fifth inning before reaching his pitch limit of 65. After holding the Padres scoreless over the first three innings, he allowed two runs in the fourth on a solo homer from Gavin Sheets and an RBI double from Connor Joe. Castillo retired the first two batters of the fifth inning before being lifted. “I thought 'The Rock' threw the ball very, very well today,” manager Dan Wilson said.

3/10/25 A J.P. Crawford Resurgence Would Go a Long Way For the Seattle Mariners in 2025. The Seattle Mariners beat the Colorado Rockies, 8-1, on Sunday afternoon in Cactus League play. The win was a solid one for the M's, who saw Luis Castillo pitch into the fourth inning and also got a nice defensive play from Julio Rodriguez in center field. This could be said about several M's players this season, but if Crawford can bounce back from a dreadful 2024, it would go a long way toward giving the Mariners the kind of offense they desire to have under first-year manager Dan Wilson.

3/04/25 Brady's Spin: It's Fair to Be a Little Concerned About Luis Castillo For Seattle Mariners. Now, I don't want to sound fatalistic: I'm not saying that Castillo is all of a sudden going to bottom out for the Seattle Mariners. As Nick Pollack of PitcherList first pointed out in January, Castillo's fastball velocity continues to drop, as does his swinging strike rate. Where the Mariners have the benefit is here: They don't need Castillo to be the dominant force they acquired in 2022.

2/27/25 Baltimore Orioles Predicted To End Season With Seattle Mariners Ace. The Baltimore Orioles have been frequently mentioned as a potential suitor when it comes to pretty much every top pitcher that has become available, but they have yet to pull the trigger. Bleacher Report's Kerry Miller thinks that a move will eventually come, as he recently predicted that the Orioles will end this season with Seattle Mariners ace Luis Castillo on their roster. The Mariners aren't trying to ship Castillo away because he is struggling. This could be the perfect situation for Baltimore to get a new staff ace at a reasonable price.

2/25/25 Seattle Mariners Notebook: What happened before Julio's 2B?. The Seattle Mariners made the short drive to Glendale, Ariz., to take on the Dodgers at Camelback Ranch on Tuesday afternoon and came away with an 11-5 win over an LA team that without many of its stars. Luis Castillo made his first Cactus League start of the season, going 1 2/3 innings, allowing one unearned run (which came after two first-inning errors) on two hits and a walk with one strikeout. Of six balls put in play, four were on the ground, something Castillo was pleased to see. “It's a good sign,” Castillo said via interpreter Freddy Llanos.

2/17/25 Mariners' Luis Castillo downplays offseason trade rumors. As is the case with all sports, trade rumors are always fun to dissect. Seattle Mariners pitcher Luis Castillo was at the center of offseason trade rumors this offseason. “I didn't have really a big reaction,” Castillo said through an interpreter, as reported by Daniel Kramer of MLB.com. The Mariners, though they were involved in several MLB trade rumors, had a relatively quiet offseason.

2/03/25 Jerry Dipoto discusses Luis Castillo trade rumors | Mariners notebook. Seattle considered multiple trade offers for veteran starter Luis Castillo this offseason. Here's why Jerry Dipoto and the Mariners never pulled the trigger.

1/09/25 Seattle Mariners Settle on 2025 Salary With Platinum Glove-Winning Catcher. The Seattle Mariners are facing a crucial season in 2025. The team boasts arguably the best starting pitching rotation in all of baseball but still missed out on the playoffs by one game in 2024. Aside from veteran pitcher Luis Castillo, all of the starting pitchers on Seattle are under cheap rookie deals with several more years of team control.

1/07/25 MLB rumors: The 'problems' Mariners are facing in Luis Castillo trade talks. The Seattle Mariners traded for Luis Castillo at the 2022 deadline with the hope he'd be the Cy Young candidate he was in the National League. Castillo showed well that year en route to a playoff appearance, which earned the righty a lucrative contract extension. “Two-and-a-half years later, Castillo's trade value has diminished, in part because he is not quite the pitcher he was in '22 and in part because he is owed $68.25 million over the next three years.”

12/27/24 MLB rumors: Mariners discouraged stance on Luis Castillo trade talks. Several big name starting pitchers have already been on the move this offseason, and according to several rumors, the Seattle Mariners have been open to potentially trading their ace starting pitcher Luis Castillo. Seattle has an excess amount of starting pitching, and they have made it clear they are interested in dealing from that surplus in an effort to boost their lineup. While Castillo is obviously a valuable pitcher, the Mariners have not yet gotten a deal that gives them what they are looking for, which is why he has not been moved yet. “The Mariners haven't been able to get what they've sought for Luis Castillo,” Jon Heyman of the New York Post reported.

12/27/24 Red Sox, Mariners nearly completed trade for starting pitching but one player held up a deal. The Boston Red Sox have already upgraded their starting rotation, which was their biggest need entering this offseason, but they haven't been satisfied by the changes. It's been widely reported that Boston has been engaged in trade talks with the Seattle Mariners for one of their starting pitchers, and Luis Castillo has been the one mainly linked to the Red Sox at this point. According to MLB insider Mark Feinsand, the Mariners wanted Triston Casas back in a trade, but the Red Sox wouldn't make that happen unless Seattle also took Masataka Yoshida and the three years and $55.8 million he has remaining on his deal.

12/23/24 Boston Red Sox, New York Mets Seemingly Out of Trade Market For Mariners' Luis Castillo. The trade market for the Seattle Mariners with regards to Luis Castillo is rapidly shrinking, it seems. The Boston Red Sox signed free agent Walker Buehler to a one-year deal on Monday, which seems to complete their rotation, while the Mets came to terms with Sean Manaea. Manaea's three-year deal doesn't necessarily preclude the Mets from going after Castillo, but it certainly makes them less desperate to acquire him or to give the Mariners what they really want for him.

12/22/24 Red Sox Predicted To 'Revisit' Blockbuster Trade Talks Involving Mariners Ace. The most commonly discussed trade possibility for the Boston Red Sox might have a new outlook. A deal with the Seattle Mariners centered around three-time All-Star pitcher Luis Castillo and Boston first baseman Triston Casas has been floated countless times by dozens of publications this winter. Seattle doesn't necessarily need a new first baseman, since they have Luke Raley as an option for the position, but it's an easy spot to fit a big bat, many of which are leaving the market. If Seattle strikes out on Pete Alonso and Alex Bregman, neither of whom they seem to be closely linked to, then their best option to improve the offense may be Casas.

12/19/24 Mariners' Luis Castillo trade pitch lands Orioles' 27-year-old slugger. Seattle Mariners ace Luis Castillo has seen his name surface in trade rumors recently. Seattle has starting pitching depth with George Kirby and Lucas Gilbert ready to take on even more prominent roles. Given the exorbitant contracts starting pitchers have received this offseason, teams are frothing at the mouth at the idea of trading for Castillo. Castillo is owed just over $24 million in each of the next three seasons.

12/18/24 Boston Red Sox Insider Speculates Perhaps Kutter Crawford Could Get Traded to Seattle Mariners. There's been renewed talks of late around the Red Sox acquiring starting pitcher Luis Castillo, though the two sides appear to disagree on the framework of a deal. The general thought has been that the Red Sox could give the M's first baseman Triston Casas, but recent reports have indicated that the M's might actually want a starting pitcher back in a deal for Castillo.

12/17/24 Insider suggests Mariners trade three-time All-Star ace to Red Sox. The Seattle Mariners are in desperate need of some thump in their lineup. As such, Seattle might be forced to consider drastic measures to improve their lineup. Jim Bowden of The Athletic suggests that Seattle should trade right-hander and three-time All-Star Luis Castillo to the Boston Red Sox in exchange for Triston Casas and prospect Blaze Jordan.

12/14/24 MLB rumors: Mariners to make 'strong push' for free agent if Luis Castillo trade happens. The Seattle Mariners are at the center of offseason trade discussions as interest grows around their ace, Luis Castillo. According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the Mets, Cubs, Red Sox, and Orioles have inquired about the availability of the 32-year-old right-hander, whose value has soared following Max Fried's massive $218 million deal with the Yankees. While the Mariners have entertained offers, their stance on Castillo remains firm. “We'll do it, but only if the return makes the team better,” a source Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.
