Aiming for a series win in interleague play, the Tampa Bay Rays will look to make matters worse for the visiting Atlanta Braves on Saturday afternoon. Tampa Bay catcher Danny Jansen -- who entered Friday's series opener 1-for-26 (.038) at the plate -- tallied three hits (including a two-run homer) and four RBIs as the Rays posted a 6-3 victory over the struggling Braves. The Rays had dropped six of seven entering the weekend set, but they hope Jansen's big night creates momentum heading into Saturday. "We had all the confidence in the world that Danny was going to get going, and it felt like tonight he started that," Tampa Bay manager Kevin Cash said.

Cash is aiming to get the veteran free agent addition back in the lineup either Sunday against the New York Yankees or Monday against the Philadelphia Phillies. From there, Jansen's next step towards a full recovery would be Wednesday's intrasquad game that closes out spring training.

2/13/25 Rays already getting a sense of the big impact Danny Jansen can have. PORT CHARLOTTE — As the Rays researched, signed and welcomed veteran free-agent catcher Danny Jansen to their team over the past few months, they received nothing but great recommendations and reviews. “No one had a bad word to say about him,” baseball operations president Erik Neander said. “No one had a neutral word to say about him. 9/24/24 Red Sox lineup: Danny Jansen behind plate in Toronto homecoming. TORONTO — On Monday night, in the first game of the Red Sox' three-game series at Rogers Centre, Danny Jansen was the center of attention. The former Blue Jays catcher, who was acquired by the Red Sox at the trade deadline, was returning to Toronto, where he spent six and a half seasons and was extraordinarily popular with fans and media. A handful of Toronto reporters visited him in the Boston clubhouse before the game, and in the first inning, he was introduced to the crowd, receiving a warm ovation. He returned the sentiment by saluting the fans, waving in front of the Boston dugout. Just one problem: he wasn't in the lineup, as Connor Wong was behind the plate. Tuesday night, that will change

9/04/24 Underwhelming Red Sox Hitter Surprisingly Predicted To Break Out In September. The current offensive drought plaguing the Boston Red Sox is well-documented at this point. As the Red Sox have plummeted from playoff contention, the lineup has gone silent. Superstars and role players alike have stopped driving the baseball, as Boston has lost eight of its last 11 games, including four in a row entering Wednesday night. One culprit in the case of the missing offense, fair or unfair, is catcher Danny Jansen, who the Red Sox acquired from the division rival Toronto Blue Jays at the trade deadline.

9/03/24 Alex Cora Criticizes Struggling Red Sox Trade Deadline Pickup. Danny Jansen can help the Red Sox behind the plate, but that wasn't the main reason why Boston acquired the veteran backstop. 9/02/24 Danny Jansen yet to provide power lift Red Sox expected when acquiring him from Blue Jays. The Red Sox acquired Danny Jansen from the Blue Jays, in part, because the club believed his pull-side power would work well at Fenway. Entering Monday, the Red Sox had hit .220/.288/.385 in their last 24 games, going 9-15. How do the Sox plan on getting out of that funk? “Like I always said, you got to chase good at-bats,” said Cora.
