4/15/25 Royals pitcher Seth Lugo pulls off insane pitching feat vs. Yankees. The Kansas City Royals came up short against the New York Yankees on Monday night, falling 4-1 at Yankee Stadium in the first meeting between the two teams since the 2024 ALDS. Royals starter Seth Lugo took the loss, but if it's any consolation, he pulled off a bonkers feat in the process. As Tom Verducci pointed out on the game broadcast, Lugo had thrown nine different pitch types by 8:20 p.m. ET, when the game was still in the fifth inning. Lugo, now 1-2 with a 3.86 ERA on the young season, is known for his wide array of pitches and he doesn't hesitate to unfurl them all.

3/10/25 ESPN writer identifies new Mets acquisition as a breakout candidate. One of the most eye-opening trends of the past few Major League Baseball seasons has been the successful transition of a number of veteran relievers to starting pitchers. The first recent example came in the 2023 season with Seth Lugo, who finally got a chance to start with the San Diego Padres and posted a 3.57 ERA before becoming a Cy Young contender with the Kansas City Royals. The Padres went back to the well with Michael King and watched the former New York Yankee post a 2.95 ERA in 30 starts and finish seventh in the National League Cy Young Award voting.

1/23/25 Could Bossier's Seth Lugo Be On The Move Again?. The Mets took him in the 34th round of the 2011 draft. John Smoltz was a 22nd round pick. Keith Hernandez was picked in the 42nd round. Despite being a late round pick, he ended up being a great pick for the Mets.

1/15/25 Mets $26 Million Star Could Be 'Bargain Bin' Target For Royals In Free Agency. The Kansas City Royals might say they're happy with the staring rotation as it currently stands, but they'd still be wise to keep pursuing upgrades. It's perfectly fine to be satisfied with the top three--Seth Lugo, Cole Ragans, and Michael Wacha are all coming off tremendous seasons. After trading Brady Singer, who made 32 starts last season, the Royals are counting on Kris Bubic and Michael Lorenzen to shore up those final two spots, with some potential help from Kyle Wright and Alec Marsh.

1/07/25 Mets $38 million 2-time All-Star 'doesn't have the ability' for new role. The New York Mets addressed their starting rotation this winter but made an unexpected move to do so. Holmes signed a three-year, $38 million deal in the offseason. FanSided's Brian Germinaro thinks Holmes is not going to find the same success as other relievers turned starters like Seth Lugo.

1/01/25 Royals Predicted To Move On From $4.5 Million Former All-Star After Dismal Season. The Kansas City Royals had an A+ offseason last year, even if not every signing worked out as it was intended to. The Royals won big on Seth Lugo and Michael Wacha, who formed the core of a dominant starting pitching rotation. One signing the Royals had higher hopes for was utility man Adam Frazier, who was a 2021 National League All-Star before his journeyman phase really took off. Since that All-Star selection, Frazier has played for the San Diego Padres, Seattle Mariners, Baltimore Orioles, and Royals.

12/30/24 Kansas City Royals Star Bobby Witt Jr. Turned in Historic Performance in 2024. It was a great year for the Kansas City Royals in 2024. First, the Royals spent big last offseason, signing Seth Lugo and Michael Wacha in free agency. Then, they inked Bobby Witt Jr. to the largest contract in franchise history. Then, a year after losing 106 games, the Royals went out and made the playoffs, advancing all the way to the ALDS.

12/07/24 MLB rumors: What Royals want in free agency. The Kansas City Royals surprised many people when they decided to be active in free agency last offseason. President of baseball operations J.J. Picollo acknowledged the restlessness that permeated the clubhouse and fan base, and with a green light from ownership, he brought in crucial difference-makers like Seth Lugo and Michael Wacha. Fresh off an appearance in the American League Division Series, the front office will be expected to upgrade the roster even further. MVP runner-up Bobby Witt Jr., RBI machine Vinnie Pasquantino and franchise great Salvador Perez vaulted the club to the top in most offensive categories, but more balance will be needed if Kansas City is going to vie for a championship.

12/03/24 MLB rumors: Would Phillies make Jeff Hoffman a starter next year?. There has been a trend of late, of MLB teams turning successful relievers into starting pitchers — one that runs counter to most pitching transitions which see starters moving to the bullpen. The Royals did it with Seth Lugo. The Rays did it with Zack Littell. The Braves transitioned Reynaldo López and the Giants swapped Jordan Hicks.

11/20/24 Royals' Lugo finishes as runner-up in AL Cy Young race. A career year for Kansas City Royals starter Seth Lugo left the right-hander just a bit shy of the AL Cy Young Award. On Wednesday, Detroit Tigers left-hander Tarik Skubal was awarded the 2024 AL Cy Young, beating out Lugo and Cleveland Guardians closer Emmanuel Clase.

11/13/24 Dodgers $75 Million All-Star Slugger Named Surprise Top Target For Royals. The Kansas City Royals made some splashy signings last winter, but they'll have to keep upping the ante in 2025. After bringing in standout starting pitchers Seth Lugo and Michael Wacha, the Royals shocked the Major League Baseball universe, turning a last-place finish into a playoff berth in just one season. In a year where many small-market teams punted on the season amid uncertain television revenue, Kansas City was rewarded for hitting the gas pedal. The Royals made good on their commitment to Wacha, inking him to a three-year, $51 million extension.
