3/18/25 Royals Make Major Announcement Regarding Uniforms For 2025. The Kansas City Royals won 86 games last season and secured the second American League Wild Card spot. The team also made some key additions this offseason, bringing in Carlos Estevez to bolster the bullpen and trading for Jonathan India while also re-signing pitchers Michael Wacha and Michael Lorenzen.

2/09/25 Former Philadelphia Phillies Prospect Expected to Develop into Star Player. The Philadelphia Phillies have been able to sustain success for as long as they have because they do an excellent job of balancing win-now moves at the Major League level without sacrificing all of their long-term assets. Ahead of last year's trade deadline, they unloaded a few in a trade with the Los Angeles Angels to acquire relief pitcher Carlos Estevez to bolster the bullpen for the stretch run. Center fielder Brandon Marsh was also acquired from the Angels in August 2022.

2/09/25 Philadelphia Phillies Predicted to Reunite with Long-Time Relief Pitcher. With pitchers and catchers set to report soon for the Philadelphia Phillies, a long offseason is nearly over. Coming into the winter, the Phillies appeared like a team that could have seen significant change. While the addition of Romano at the closer spot was very important for Philadelphia to have, they lost both Carlos Estevez and Jeff Hoffman in free agency this winter.

2/01/25 Two-Time World Series Champion Could Be Fit for Philadelphia Phillies Bullpen. The Philadelphia Phillies entered the offseason with two of the top relievers set to hit the market coming from their roster. It was going to be difficult to bring even one of Carlos Estevez or Jeff Hoffman back, but the Phillies wound up losing both of their free agents from a unit which had a solid year, but didn't hold up their end of the bargain in the playoffs. Signing Jordan Romano from the Toronto Blue Jays - ironically where Hoffman ended up - presumably gives Philadelphia a new closer, but a steady stable of setup guys is often the difference in how playoff games can be won and lost.

2/01/25 Royals Pursued $92.5 Million All-Star Before Blue Jays Deal, Per Insider. The Kansas City Royals made a big move earlier this week, finally adding some much-needed help to the back end of their bullpen. The team signed right-hander Carlos Estevez to a two-year, $22 million contract on Wednesday. According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the Royals were in on one of the top free agent sluggers in Anthony Santander before he signed with the Toronto Blue Jays.

1/31/25 Royals Loosely Linked To Cardinals $260 Million 10x Gold Glove Winner. The Kansas City Royals made one of their biggest moves of the offseason earlier this week when they signed veteran reliever Carlos Estevez to a two-year, $22 million contract. At long last, they have a late-inning presence to go with Hunter Harvey and Lucas Erceg. Now, all that's left for the Royals to do is to add a bat to their mix. The Royals' offense certainly let them down in the American League Division Series against the New York Yankees, and adding another threat could get them over the hump.

1/30/25 Reports: Royals adding former Phillies closer Carlos Estevez. The Kansas City Royals have reached an agreement with free agent right-handed closer Carlos Estevez on a two-year contract, according to multiple media reports Wednesday evening. Estevez, an All-Star in 2023 with the Los Angeles Angels, split last season between the Angels and the Philadelphia Phillies, who acquired him on July 27 ahead of the trade deadline last summer. The contract is worth a reported $22 million, though the Royals are yet to confirm the deal. 1/24/25 Former Angels All-Star Engaged in Talks With NL Central Team. Former Los Angeles Angels closer Carlos Estevez is the best reliever available on the free agent market, and now he is reportedly in discussions with a National League Central suitor. The Cincinnati Reds are engaged in talks with Estevez, according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today Sports. Per Dave Clark of the Cincinnati Enquirer, a source close to Estevez said there's "nothing serious" between the Reds and Estevez.

1/23/25 Cubs listed as 'likely' landing spot for $30 million All-Star closer. The Chicago Cubs bullpen struggled in 2024 and could use some work heading into 2025 if the team wants to improve from last year's third place finish in the National League Central. Fortunately, there are still a few solid relievers available on the free agent market that could help them. Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report listed the North Siders as a potential landing spot for right-hander Carlos Estevez, who was an All-Star with the Los Angeles Angels in 2023. "With Tanner Scott off the board to the Dodgers, all eyes turn to Carlos Estévez as the most noteworthy closer still available," Miller wrote.

1/14/25 Former Angels All-Star Drawing Interest From At Least 6 Teams: Report. Make that six teams interested in former Los Angeles Angels closer Carlos Estevez, according to baseball insider Jon Heyman of the New York Post. 1/12/25 Mets 'Could Make a Run' at Former Rival Reliever. Relief pitchers haven't gotten a ton of attention from the New York Mets' front office this offseason. Mark W. Sanchez of the New York Post listed a few compelling bullpen options for the Mets in a January 12 article, including one from a rival team. "They could make a run at Carlos Estevez, a 32-year-old coming off a strong season with the Angels and Phillies," Sanchez wrote. Estévez is a fascinating potential option for New York, if only because he finished the 2024 season with the Philadelphia Phillies.

1/07/25 MLB rumors: Blue Jays interested in ex-Angels All-Star closer. The Toronto Blue Jays are reportedly interested in former All-Star closer Carlos Estevez, per Jon Heyman of The New York Post. 1/06/25 Cubs predicted to land $23 million closer on two-year deal. The Chicago Cubs have been relatively quiet this offseason, but their most recent move was a big one. Now, the Cubs can turn their focus to pitching. Tim Kelly of Bleacher Report predicts that they will ultimately land veteran right-hander Carlos Estevez on a two-year, $23 million deal.

12/10/24 Market for Philadelphia Phillies Closer Carlos Estevez Heating Up at Winter Meetings. The Philadelphia Phillies are one of several teams that are reportedly in the market for bullpen upgrades at this year's Winter Meetings. It makes sense after the dominant regular season their relievers had was followed up with a shaky playoff performance. One of the most dominant relievers in baseball from 2020-2023, his production fell off in 2024 as he dealt with an elbow injury.

11/20/24 Bold Trade Idea Sees Philadelphia Phillies Acquire Pitcher From Cardinals. The Philadelphia Phillies are one of the more intriguing teams early in the MLB offseason. Looking at what they need to do this winter, the Phillies should be targeting more offensive production in the outfield and potentially an elite closer. Carlos Estevez is a free agent and could very well end up leaving Philadelphia. Could Philadelphia consider pursuing a trade with the St. Louis Cardinals to bring in a new long-term closer?

11/16/24 Phillies Need This Star Closer to Shore Up Bullpen, Get Closer to Dodgers. With the unfortunate reality of the Philadelphia Phillies likely losing both Carlos Estevez and Jeff Hoffman this winter, the front office needs to have a plan regarding their bullpen. If anything has proven true over the past few offseasons, the Phillies know what their next move will be. There's a reason why Hoffman and Estevez are looking at the contracts they are.

11/11/24 Phillies predicted to land reliable Dodgers reliever on $10 million deal. The Philadelphia Phillies have some money to spend this offseason, and they should be one of Major League Baseball's most active teams in free agency. After losing the National League Division Series to the New York Mets, their bullpen is going to need a little bit of work. Both Carlos Estevez and Jeff Hoffman are now free agents, and they were both key cogs in the machine in 2024. Tim Kelly of Bleacher Report expects that they will sign veteran reliever Blake Treinen to a one-year, $10 million contract this winter.
