4/17/25 | How patience and persistence are finally paying off for one Guardians Infielder. After nearly three years of waiting, hoping, and yes – hand-wringing – Gabriel Arias might finally be transforming into the everyday player the Cleveland Guardians believe he could become. As the hosts of the Cleveland Baseball Talk Podcast pointed out, he has hit home runs in three of his last five games, and his latest blast came against Baltimore's Dean Kramer, a solo shot to center field that represented Cleveland's only run in their 9-1 loss to the Orioles. It's not just the recent power surge that has the Guardians excited. Arias has shown a newfound comfort level at the plate, drawing walks and making consistent hard contact. 4/11/25 | Gabriel Arias hits a 3-run homer to propel Guardians to 7-0 victory over Royals. 4/02/25 | Missing Gold: Guardians' Defense shows cracks without Giménez. The Guardians have built their identity around solid defense and contact hiting, but their series against the San Diego Padres has revealed concerning cracks in that foundation. In the latest episode of the Cleveland Baseball Talk Podcast, Paul Hoynes and Joe Noga dig into how the absence of Gold Glove second baseman Andrés Giménez is already being felt, particularly through Gabriel Arias' short-term struggles. 3/23/25 | Prospect News: Wilson’s Not Alone or Can One Return A Brito?. Guardians 2B Juan Brito lost out in his bid for the second base job despite going five for his last ten at bats with zero strikeouts and two home runs. Tyler Freeman has been electric this spring, and though he’s been playing outfield this year after coming up as an infielder, he could probably slide back to the dirt if that's his path to playing time. Gabriel Arias continues to exist and might be the opening day starter. I have never seen what Cleveland sees in him, but that’s irrelevant. Perhaps Cleveland will recall Brito at the first signs of distress at the keystone, but I’m not encouraged right now.
UPDATE: Freeman has been traded to Colorado for Nolan Jones. Unclear if this means anything to Brito's chances, or if the Guardians are simply pursuing their quest to get Gabriel Arias as much playing time as possible. Source: https://razzball.com/prospect-news-wilsons-not-alo... |
3/16/25 | Guardians Skipper Has Seen 'Different' Gabriel Arias This Spring. The Cleveland Guardians' second base job is down to just a few players after multiple candidates were identified heading into spring training. Arguably, the front-runner right now is Gabriel Arias, who still has a ton of natural talent and potential. Stephen Vogt noted earlier this week that this isn't the same Arias he's seen in the past, and the Guardians skipper complimented the infielder for his mindset this spring. "We see a very different, focused Gabby this spring," said Vogt. Source: https://www.si.com/mlb/guardians/news/cleveland-gu... |
3/10/25 | Takeaways From Cleveland Guardians Spring Training So Far. Here are three takeaways from Cleveland's Cactus League games so far. The Guardians had plenty of intriguing candidates for their second base position battle heading into spring training. Despite having incredible potential, Gabriel Arias continues to show inconsistencies in the batter's box. Tyler Freeman is the only contender who's shown a pulse at the plate, but given Cleveland's outfield needs, his role with the team may be better suited to a super utility player. 2/26/25 | Rangers RHP Dane Dunning's offseason work paying off early: 'He looks more like himself'. The slider cut in such a way that Cleveland Guardians second baseman Gabriel Arias lurched forward, swung, lost control of his bat and accidentally launched it a few dozen feet into the air and into the safety netting at Goodyear Park. Texas Rangers right-handed pitcher Dane Dunning — who threw that slider to Arias, then struck out Jhonkensy Noel and Austin Hedges in the next two at-bats — mowed down the six Cleveland batters he faced in two perfect innings Wednesday afternoon. It extended his scoreless spring training streak to four innings, a span in which he's struck out five batters, allowed one hit and walked none. Statistically speaking, at least, no other Rangers pitcher has been better. Source: https://www.dallasnews.com/sports/rangers/2025/02/... |
