Field Level Media Alex Verdugo had four hits and drove in the go-ahead run to help the Atlanta Braves defeat the visiting Minnesota Twins 4-3 Saturday and win back-to-back games for the first time this season. In his second game since joining the club, Verdugo was 4-for-5 with two doubles, and his single in the sixth inning off reliever Brock Stewart chased Nick Allen home with the go-ahead ...

4/20/25 Verdugo has 4 hits, drives in go-ahead run as Braves top Twins 4-3 to finally win back-to-back games. Alex Verdugo, making his second start as Atlanta's left fielder and leadoff hitter, had four hits that included a go-ahead single in the sixth inning, and the Braves beat the Minnesota Twins 4-3 on Saturday night for their first back-to-back wins of the season. Verdugo was recalled on Thursday to help boost a slumping offense after signing a $1.5 million, one-year contract on March 20. The Braves (7-13) have won the first two games of the series against Minnesota (7-14) as they try to recover from an 0-7 start. Atlanta has won 10 consecutive games against the Twins dating to 2019.

4/18/25 Alex Verdugo debuts for Atlanta Braves in leadoff position. If Atlanta's fledgling offense can get any sort of jolt from the newly arrived Alex Verdugo, oh, what a bonus that would be for the NL East's last-place team. Verdugo, an outfielder who turns 29 on May 15, was called up by Atlanta on Thursday and was in the Braves' starting lineup Friday ahead of a series opener against the visiting Twins at Truist Park. Verdugo was penciled into the leadoff spot. “They (the Braves) offered a deal, and it was one those things, man, I didn't really know what I was gonna do,” Verdugo said Friday.

4/17/25 Polarizing ex-Red Sox outfielder finally rejoins MLB after offseason journey. Former Boston Red Sox outfielder Alex Verdugo has finally gotten the call up to the big leagues for his 2025 debut with the Atlanta Braves. Reports surfaced weeks before Opening Day that Verdugo hadn't received any major league offers to play in 2025 after a down season with the New York Yankees.

4/14/25 Atlanta Braves Expected to Promote Former Top Prospect Who Signed MiLB Deal This Week. After signing a minor league contract this offseason, outfielder Alex Verdugo is expected to join the Atlanta Braves later this week. A Braves official said it was a scheduled lighter work day (on Sunday) for Verdugo after he'd played all 14 innings of a doubleheader Saturday. Verdugo, 28, was drafted in the second round of the 2014 MLB Draft by the Los Angeles Dodgers and ascended to one of the better prospects in the game.

4/01/25 Ex-Red Sox Alex Verdugo Could Benefit From MLB's Latest PED Suspension. The offseason was a challenging time for former Boston Red Sox outfielder Alex Verdugo, but the 28-year-old's patience could come rewarded in 2025. It'll all depend on whether or not Verdugo plays his card right, now as a member of the Atlanta Braves. Atlanta outfielder Jurickson Profar was issued an 80-game suspension after testing positive for PEDs, ESPN's Jeff Passan reported Monday. Profar signed a three-year, $42 million deal with the Braves and was slated to play a key role for the club.

3/24/25 Yankees were 'concerned' by former player's off-field issues, report says. It took until seven days before the start of stateside Opening Day for outfielder Alex Verdugo to land with a new organization — and, even at that, he'll start in Triple-A. Verdugo will make $1.5 million with the Atlanta Braves on a one-year deal after a season with the New York Yankees in which he started through the postseason, played in 149 regular-season games and earned $8.7 million. Verdugo's off-field issues also concerned the Yankees, who made no effort to retain him.

3/22/25 MLB rumors: Alex Verdugo accused of 'misplaying free agency' by insider. One week before their season opener against the San Diego Padres, the Atlanta Braves signed Alex Verdugo to a one-year, $1.5 million contract. Although the veteran outfielder was coming off the worst season of his career in 2024, his poor showing in free agency surprised many observers. Throughout his career Verdugo has been, for the most part, a solid contact hitter who offers positional versatility in the outfield. “Alex Verdugo scarcely misplayed a ball in left field for the Yankees last year… But boy did he ever misplay free agency,” Jon Heyman of the New York Post wrote, via si.com.

3/21/25 Braves sign OF Verdugo to 1-year, $1.5M deal. The Atlanta Braves signed veteran outfielder Alex Verdugo to a one-year, $1.5 million contract Thursday and subsequently optioned him to Triple-A so he can get some at-bats, given that he has missed most of spring training.

3/19/25 Ex-MLB star complains about injustice for two ex-Yankees. As spring training draws close to an end, a couple of players from the 2024 Yankees squad remain free agents. Both outfielder Alex Verdugo and first baseman Anthony Rizzo have yet to land with a new team. Former Royals first baseman Eric Hosmer thinks there's a problem with that. “How we living in a world where the everyday LF and 1B for the New York Yankees World Series team don't have jobs after the first MLB game of the season,” Hosmer wrote on X on Tuesday.

3/18/25 Former New York Yankees star Alex Verdugo yet to receive major league offer: Report. Prominent outfielder Alex Verdugo, who helped the New York Yankees to an AL pennant during the last season, spent the winter hunting for a new job after becoming a free agent in November. As Verdugo continues to linger on the free agent market, it seems like his search for the new team will stretch into this season. Verdugo is yet to receive an MLB offer despite being a free agent for months now, a source close to the matter told Brendan Kuty of The Athletic.

3/18/25 Aaron Judge 'Surprised' That Ex-Yankees, Red Sox Outfielder Remains Unsigned. A former Boston Red Sox outfielder who is widely considered a starting outfielder has shockingly remained unsigned this offseason. The Athletic's Brendan Kuty released a piece on Tuesday reacting to a surprising reality for Alex Verdugo — he doesn't have a team to play for with less than two weeks to go until the start of the 2025 regular season. Verdugo played for the Red Sox between 2020 and 2023 before joining the New York Yankees last season. The Yankees moved on from him after the season in favor of giving Jasson Domínguez a starting opportunity in the outfield, but that doesn't mean Verdugo isn't still a valuable asset for 29 other teams.

3/18/25 MLB Rumors: Ex-Red Sox Facing Harsh Reality As Opening Day Nears. The Los Angeles Dodgers and the Chicago Cubs began a new MLB season in Japan on Tuesday, but a former Boston Red Sox outfielder remains unemployed. Alex Verdugo's New York Yankees tenure flamed out with a disappointing World Series run. The Bronx Bombers didn't re-sign the 28-year-old since they wanted to allow their top prospect Jasson Domínguez a chance to earn a roster spot. Verdugo isn't the greatest outfielder, but he's proven to be serviceable at best. That doesn't seem to be enough for MLB teams as, according to The Athletic's Brendan Kuty , Verdugo “hasn't received a single major-league offer since becoming a free agent.” The eight-year veteran made $8.7 million last season, so it's possible

By Henry Blickenstaff | Share on Facebook Share on X Copy Article World Series - Los Angeles Dodgers v New York Yankees - Game 5 | Jim McIsaac/GettyImages Share on Facebook Share on X Share on Reddit Copy Article Alex Verdugo is coming off of a rather forgettable season with the Yankees. Playing mostly in left field, the former Red Sox managed just a .647 OPS at a park that caters to left-handed hitters. He didn't fare too much better in the postseason, either, hitting to just a .622 OPS. And, of course, he was the final out of the World Series , striking out at the hands of now-Red Sox pitcher Walker Buehler.

3/12/25 This Red Sox pitching prospect has officially made Yankees lose Alex Verdugo trade. The Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees don't often make trades. The exchange that sent Alex Verdugo from Boston to New York before the 2024 season will live on as one of the few in their histories. Verdugo arrived in Boston from the Los Angeles Dodgers as one of its returns in the Mookie Betts trade, which became an even more spectacular failure after his tenure with the Sox didn't work out.

3/09/25 MLB Rumors: Alex Verdugo's Chance To Sign Highjacked By Ex-Red Sox. Former Boston Red Sox outfielder Alex Verdugo missed out on a chance to sign with a National League club this offseason in the most ironic way. Verdugo, a current free-agent outfielder, still hasn't signed while teams across the league have already begun spring training exhibition. Pittsburgh considered offering Verdugo an $8 million contract, according to the New York Post's Jon Heyman.

3/03/25 Polarizing Yankees outfielder sends 3-word message hinting at reunion. Former New York Yankees outfielder Alex Verdugo seemed to hint at a reunion with the team on social media as spring training is underway. Verdugo is still without a contract after playing one season in the Bronx. Instead, New York added Cody Bellinger to play center field while also giving Jasson Domínguez a chance to be the everyday left fielder.
