April 6 - Jonah Heim hit a walk-off single to center to score Josh Smith and the Texas Rangers completed a three-game sweep of the Tampa Bay Rays with a 4-3 victory Sunday in Arlington, Texas. Edwin Uceta (0-1) sat down the first two batters he faced in the bottom of the ninth before Smith hit a double to left. Two pitches later, Heim followed with his game-winner. Corey Seager hit his first home run of the year for the Rangers, who've won eight of 10 to start the year. Marcus Semien and Leody Taveras added RBIs. Smith finished 3-for-4 and scored two of the hosts' four runs. By STEPHEN HAWKINS AP Baseball Writer ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Jonah Heim hit two solo homers and rookie Jack Leiter allowed one run over five innings for his first big league win as the Texas Rangers beat the Boston Red Sox 4-1 on Friday night. Heim's second homer was a 417-foot drive to right-center that put Texas up 2-1 in the fifth, after Leiter (1-0) had thrown the last of his 82 pitches. Heim led off the third pulling a pitch just over the right field wall against All-Star Tanner Houck (0-1), who gave up four runs in 5 2/3 innings. Leiter struck out four with one walk while allowing five singles. 2/24/25 | Surrounded by MLB veterans, Rangers first-rounder Malcolm Moore is soaking up all he can. You might as well name this tucked-away quadrant of the Texas Rangers' clubhouse something with a ring to it, like, “Catchers Corner,” or anything of the sorts. From right to left, it goes: Jonah Heim, an All-Star and Gold Glove winner; Kyle Higashioka, eight-year big league veteran; Chad Wallach, seven-year big league veteran; Tucker Barnhart, 11-year big league veteran, and Malcolm Moore, the Rangers' first-round draft choice last summer. Through two exhibitions, including Saturday's 6-1 loss to San Francisco, hitters who appeared for the Rangers in 2024 have gone a combined 4 for 31 (.129) this spring. 2/16/25 | Texas Rangers Reinforce Confidence in All-Star After Sluggish Season. Add in the fact that Texas Rangers catcher Jonah Heim is a switch-hitter, and you have a player the Rangers want on the field as much as possible. It's possible Heim has been on the field too much the past two seasons, which is why the Rangers are taking a different approach this season. Heim has caught 131 games each of the past two seasons, along with 121 games in 2022. After an All-Star and Gold Glove season in 2023, his offense dipped last year, as did his defense. 2/13/25 | After some tough, 'upfront' love, Texas Rangers' Jonah Heim looks to leave 2024 in past. The conversations the Texas Rangers had with Jonah Heim over the winter should have centered around contract extensions, not leg extensions. The 2024 season was a total loss for the Rangers, but perhaps nobody felt it harder, especially financially, than Heim. A year earlier he was both the starting catcher in the All-Star Game and and a Gold Glove winner, in addition to pocketing the final strike of the World Series. Entering the second year of arbitration, Heim was well-positioned to parlay his performance and experience into a long-term deal. Source: https://www.dallasnews.com/sports/rangers/2025/02/... |

1/07/25 | Rangers Position Preview: Which Jonah Heim will show up as catcher in 2025?. To say that the production level, as a whole, from the catcher spot underwhelmed for the Texas Rangers in 2024 would be an understatement. With Jonah Heim coming off arguably a team MVP quality year in which the Rangers won the World Series, he started the All-Star game, and won his first Gold Glove, the organization felt comfortable parting ways with offensive threat Mitch Garver, who backed Heim up behind the dish. Going into 2024, Heim was seen as a stable, consistent, and key part of the core behind the plate – a welcome sight until it wasn't. Source: https://www.myfoxzone.com/article/sports/mlb/range... |
9/07/24 | What Happened To Heim? Texas Rangers Catcher's Drop-Off One of Season's Biggest Mysteries. By any metric, this version of Texas Rangers catcher Jonah Heim is nothing like the 2023 version of Jonah Heim. “We've all had down years,” Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said. “I know we've had a few (players) this year that have not had their normal years, or the year that they had the previous year, and Jonah is one of them, both behind the plate and on offense.” Entering Friday's game he was batting .220 with 12 home runs and 53 RBI, which was before he flew out in a pinch-hit appearance in Friday's game. Texas Rangers general manager Chris Young made a Monday appearance on the GBag Nation on 105.3 The Fan (KRLD-FM) to discuss the team's offensive woes, Jacob deGrom's rehab and why the team reduced Jonah Heim's role. Chris Young: I don't know what the historical probabilities and likelihoods are, I just know that we've continued to dig ourselves a bigger hole than we should have. This team is more talented than that. Source: https://www.dallasnews.com/sports/rangers/2024/08/... |
8/11/24 | Texas Rangers to split time at catcher more evenly between Jonah Heim, Carson Kelly. A year ago, Jonah Heim started the All-Star Game and won a Gold Glove. As of Sunday, you can hardly even call him the Rangers' regular catcher. Both GM Chris Young and manager Bruce Bochy acknowledged that club plans to split playing time between the struggling Heim and recently-acquired Carson Kelly more evenly. Kelly, who started Sunday against the Yankees, has been behind the plate for five of the 10 games since he was acquired from Detroit. Source: https://www.dallasnews.com/sports/rangers/2024/08/... |
