4/15/25 Padres Linked to Free Agent Pitcher in Potential Savvy Signing. The San Diego Padres are connected to a free agent pitcher who is currently available and could enhance an already strong pitching staff. Spencer Turnbull, who last pitched for the Philadelphia Phillies, was not signed during the offseason and remains available for any team to pick up. In a column about free agency signings that need to happen, Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report lists Turnbull as an obvious signing for any team looking to upgrade the depth of their roster. "Yet there sits Spencer Turnbull, ripe for the picking, while fans all over the country (and in Canada) try to tell their teams to do something about that."

4/11/25 Spencer Turnbull is looking for a job, the Phillies should give him one. No baseball team has more blown saves than the Philadelphia Phillies. Through 12 games, they have five blown saves in 18 save situations, as well as blown leads in three of their four losses. The ERA of Phillies' relief pitchers — 4.22 — is 22nd in the majors and their WHIP isn't much better, 1.448 ranking 23rd. It's extremely early, and the bullpen has a very small 38.2 innings of work to their ledger.

3/20/25 Yankees could target ex-Phillies $9 million hurler amid devastating injuries. Needing to add depth to the pitching rotation, the New York Yankees must leave no stone unturned heading into the 2025 season. The self-imposed financial limitations may put the Yankees in a bind of sorts, but they can still go bargain-bin shopping. One of those cheap options could come in the form of former Philadelphia Phillies and Detroit Tigers right-hander Spencer Turnbull, per Jacob Mountz of FanSided.

1/26/25 Padres Linked to $7M Former Top Prospect Pitcher in Free Agency. The San Diego Padres have had to watch stars either leave town as free agents or opt to sign elsewhere recently. The latest name to be linked to the Padres is right-hander Spencer Turnbull, who was once the Detroit Tigers' sixth-ranked prospect in 2016. Tim Dierkes of MLB Trade Rumors connected the veteran starter to San Diego when he predicted the Friars to land him in free agency on a one-year, $7 million deal. Turnbull has made an impressive recovery after missing part of 2021 and all of 2022 due to Tommy John surgery.

10/30/24 Philadelphia Phillies Veteran Predicted To Become Superstar on New Team. The Philadelphia Phillies brought in a veteran pitcher this past offseason that turned into one of the most reliable arms in the bullpen. As Zachary D. Rymer of Bleacher Report searched for players that could potentially rise into superstardom on a new team, Phillies reliever Spencer Turnbull was on the list.

10/12/24 Veteran Free Agent Pitcher Not Predicted to Return to Philadelphia Phillies in FA. The Philadelphia Phillies enter the offseason following an earlier elimination than they expected at the hands of their NL East rival New York Mets in four games. After winning the division for the first time since 2011, hopes were high for another deep playoff run in Philadelphia, but a Mets team that has gotten hot at the right time was able to dispatch the team and end their winningest regular season since 2010 without a playoff series victory. Decisions will have to be made this offseason on how the team can re-tool and try to make another run next season which will include where to spend money with regards to current players on expiring deals. One of those players who will be a major question mark is right handed pitcher Spencer Turnbull.

10/01/24 Could Philadelphia Phillies Make Trade For Veteran Cardinals Pitcher This Winter?. The Philadelphia Phillies finished the regular season with a 95-67 record, an NL East division title, and the No. 2 seed in the National League. One could only wonder what their record might have been if they had a solid fifth starter. This was even more present when manager Rob Thomson opted not to pitch him a single time during the playoffs, and after the veteran starter began this year on the injured list, things quickly got off to a rocky start during this campaign. At the time, there weren't a whole lot of concerns surrounding the Phillies' rotation because Spencer Turnbull filled in admirably, but when Walker returned and Turnbull hit the injured list, that sparked a tough stretch every fifth day for the starting unit.

9/16/24 Philadelphia Phillies Moving Veteran Starter Back Into Rotation for Thursday's Game. The Philadelphia Phillies enter Monday with the best record in baseball, and as the only team to reach 90 wins at this point in the season. Despite the Phillies' success this season, they have had to manage one key issue: the fifth spot in the rotation. After starting the season with Spencer Turnbull manning the role, veteran right-hander Taijuan Walker reclaimed the position he held through the 2023 season upon returning from an injury he sustained in Spring Training. Just two months after returning from his first injured list stint, Walker would go back on the injured list with right index finger inflammation on June 23rd.

6/28/24 With Spencer Turnbull, Taijuan Walker on IL, Michael Mercado to get the nod. It was only in early May that Phillies pitcher Spencer Turnbull, who had been remarkably successful in the season's first month while Taijuan Walker rehabilitated an injury, semi-willingly moved to the bullpen with Walker ready to return. Turnbull had signed a one-year free agency deal for $2 million to come here in the offseason, with the presumption that he'd be a long relief man and rotational backup. Yes, the Phillies are paying him $18 million a year. Now the intrigue had really taken a step up, as both Walker and Turnbull will spend significant time on the Injured List, and Thomson has gone from a manager asked about shuffling six starting pitchers for five spots, to one with four very, very good stalwarts and one glaring vacancy at No. 5.
