4/12/25 Mets-Mariners blockbuster trade idea ships $108 million 3-time All-Star to Queens. As the New York Mets continue to surge into first place in the National League East, one can't help but wonder how they're doing it. The Mets' starting rotation was thin to begin the season, then Frankie Montas and Sean Manaea both hit the injured list. Unexpected contributions from Tylor Megill and a lockdown bullpen have buoyed the 9-4 Mets to their hot start. For the Mets to truly cement themselves as World Series contenders, they could use one more workhorse.

4/06/25 Mets Injury Notes: Dedniel Núñez scheduled to pitch Sunday for Syracuse, Frankie Montas throwing from 75 feet. Prior to Sunday’s afternoon affair with the Toronto Blue Jays, Mets manager Carlos Mendoza provided a few updates on players making their way back from injury, including reliever Dedniel Núñez.

Try it free The Mets opened the season missing two surefire starting pitchers in Frankie Montas and Sean Manaea , and one possible swingman in Paul Blackburn. Through six games, not one of their still-building-up starters has reached 90 pitches, the group totaling 31 innings. And yet the Mets have covered the injuries and the innings because their bullpen, particularly their multi-inning options, has been excellent. Bullpens evolve, and what is true in early April probably won't be true in September, but the Mets are finding

4/02/25 Mets’ Frankie Montas takes positive step in lat strain recovery. Starting pitcher Frankie Montas has been sidelined with a high-grade lat strain since his first bullpen session of the spring in mid-February, but he recently took a crucial step in his recovery.

3/15/25 5 questions for the Mets in the final week of spring training. Opening Day is less than two weeks away, which means spring training is quickly coming to a close and baseball games will soon count toward the standings. The Mets are limping to the finish, with four big league regulars set to start the season on the injured list, and one who was projected to be on the Opening Day roster out for the season. Starting pitchers Frankie Montas and Sean Manaea, catcher Francisco Alvarez and infielder/outfielder Jeff McNeil will all be out to start the season.

3/11/25 Gerrit Cole's injury helps explain David Stearns' Mets pitching philosophy. Fans of the New York Mets have have a rough spring on the injury front as Frankie Montas and Sean Manaea, two of the team's most important starting pitchers, went down and will not be ready for Opening Day. Both pitchers are expected back during the season, however, which is more than the New York Yankees can say for ace Gerrit Cole. Cole is done for the year thanks to Tommy John surgery, costing the Yankees their ace for the entire 2025 season and, in all likelihood, a portion of 2026.

3/10/25 With injury depleted rotation, Mets could face uphill battle in NL East. It would not be the first time the New York Mets have had to climb out of an early hole. It all started when Frankie Montas was shut down for 6-8 weeks with a high-grade lat strain on February 17. FanGraphs projected the veteran to be the third pitcher in the rotation come Opening Day, so while it was not the best news, it certainly was not the worst. Later in the spring, Sean Manaea was diagnosed with a right oblique strain.

3/07/25 Doc Gooden thinks Mets need an ace: 'I still think we need a No. 1 guy'. The Doctor has a prescription for the Mets: A staff ace. The legendary right-hander came away with the impression that the rotation is strong, but it's lacking a punch in front. “Obviously there are question marks here, and I still think — and this is not a knock on nobody, just my opinion — I still think we need a No. 1 guy,” Gooden said Friday at the opening of Mets House NYC, a pop-up experience in Union Square. The Mets are already down two starters with injuries to right-hander Frankie Montas and left-hander Sean Manaea.

LUCIE — The most significant news of Mets camp has involved the pitchers the world has yet to see: Frankie Montas ( a lat strain that will cost months ) and Sean Manaea ( an oblique strain expected to cost weeks ) will miss time at the start of the season. The pitchers the Mets have seen — which is now every rotation candidate — have given the team some consolation. “We still feel good with our options [after] watching them at least one time through the order,” manager Carlos Mendoza

3/03/25 Mets lose former All-Star pitcher to Brewers after strong 2024. The New York Mets have been dealt some tough blows this spring with pitchers Frankie Montas and Sean Manaea suffering injuries. Montas suffered a lat strain while Manaea strained his oblique. The Mets have downplayed their need for another starting pitcher. Veteran left-hander Jose Quintana was still a free agent.

3/02/25 Mets manager Carlos Mendoza makes assertion about Tylor Megill. The New York Mets rotation will be put to the test to start the 2025 season with two key starters set to miss a significant amount of time. Newly signed starting pitcher Frankie Montas will not throw for 6-8 weeks due to a high-grade lat strain and lefty Sean Manaea will be out until at least mid-April after suffering aright oblique strain. With New York expected to be without Montas and Manaea for the foreseeable future, other starters will have to step up. Griffin Canning and Tylor Megill are viewed as viable options.

3/01/25 Right-hander José Ureña and New York Mets finalize minor league contract. PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (AP) — Right-hander José Ureña and the New York Mets finalized a minor league contract on Friday. New York agreed to the deal with the 33-year-old after right-hander Frankie Montas strained a lat muscle and left-hander Sean Manaea strained his right oblique. Ureña was 5-8 with a 3.80 ERA last year in nine starts and 24 relief appearances for Texas, striking out 70 and walking 39 in 109 innings. He was 2-6 with a 5.08 ERA as a starter. Ureña is 44-77 with a 4.76 ERA over 10 major league seasons with Miami (2015-20), Detroit (2021), Milwaukee (2022), Colorado (2022-23), the Chicago White Sox (2023) and the Rangers. 2/28/25 Mets linked to blockbuster trade for division rival $56 million ace by MLB insider. The New York Mets are all-in on the 2025 season, but starting pitching is proving to be a roadblock before the games have even begun. With early injuries to Frankie Montas and Sean Manaea, the Mets only have three rotation locks: Kodai Senga, David Peterson, and Clay Holmes. There are some intriguing names behind them, but high-end potential and depth are both concerns. If the Mets could acquire a true ace via trade, even at a high prospect cost, their outlook for the year could turn on a dime.

2/27/25 Mets predicted to land $75 million Cardinals ace in possible blockbuster deal. The New York Mets had a busy offseason, but are already facing some early challenges in spring training. Frankie Montas went down with a lat strain and Sean Manaea will also be out for Opening Day with an oblique strain. While the trade deadline is months away, it's never too early to start speculating on potential moves. It appears very likely that if the Mets are in the race, they will be looking for rotation arms.

2/26/25 Ex-Mets GM floats blockbuster trade that swaps Starling Marte for $22.5M pitcher. As the New York Mets try to put the pieces of their starting rotation back together, a trade remains looming in the realm of possibility. Two weeks into spring training, the Mets already appear to be down two starters. Frankie Montas will be out for at least six to eight weeks with a lat strain, while Sean Manaea's oblique strain appears likely to hold him out until at least mid-April. While there are still some free agents that could help plug the holes, namely ex-Met José Quintana, the most intriguing options to replace the injured starters, if the Mets even consider bringing in more external support, lie in the trade market.

2/26/25 Reese Kaplan -- Mets Offseason Roster Bullet List Week Thirteen. Mack's Mets will summarize players mentioned as possible new members of the team available via trade or free agency that have popped up in the media associated with them as a part of the 40 man roster. As Spring Training progresses it appears that the Mets may need their own M*A*S*H unit of emergency medical personnel to handle the rash of injuries that have already occurred. Pitcher Frankie Montas was the first to hit the ER ward when it was revealed he's suffering from a high lat strain which is putting him in non-baseball purgatory for several weeks before even thinking of resuming normal preparatory exercises and activities. Next on the figurative stretcher was infielder Nick Madrigal whose quest to become the new Jose Iglesias got sidelined when he came down with a left shoulder sprain.

2/25/25 For the Mets, pitching injuries will be a stress test for the team’s vaunted pitching development group. Frankie Montas and Sean Manaea, two starters signed over the winter, will miss the beginning of the season due to injuries.

2/25/25 Mets urged to make blockbuster Padres trade after losing Sean Manaea to injury. The New York Mets have been hit the hardest by the injury bug of any team during spring training, and it's not particularly close. Coming into the season, the Mets' starting rotation may have been the team's biggest question mark, but it looked solid enough. Last week, the Mets lost free-agent acquisition Frankie Montas indefinitely with a lat strain. Monday, they found out that Sean Manaea would also likely start the season on the injured list with an oblique strain.

2/25/25 Are Mets making a mistake not pursuing another starter?. The Mets lost another starter on Monday. First, it was right-hander Frankie Montas, who suffered a high-grade lat strain last week. Now, it's left-hander Sean Manaea, who the team announced is out a couple of weeks with a strained oblique injury. Throughout spring training, Mets manager Carlos Mendoza has said he likes the team's depth.
