4/24/25 Houston Astros Superstar Closer Finally Living Up To Historic Contract. Josh Hader is under a lot of pressure. Not only does he have one of the most stressful jobs in baseball as the Houston Astros' closer, but he also has to deal with incredibly high expectations after signing the largest contract in MLB history (five years, $95 million) for a reliever. Perhaps that pressure got to Hader a bit last year, as he struggled in his first season with the Astros. The 31-year-old lefty is off to an incredible start this season and pitching better than ever, finally living up to the hype as well as his massive contract.

4/17/25 Ex-Brewers Flamethrower Predicted To Join Team USA For WBC In 2026. The Milwaukee Brewers are 10-9 to start the 2025 season and currently sit in second place in the National League Central. One player that recently skipped town was Josh Hader. The Brewers sent him to the San Diego Padres at the trade deadline in 2022. The veteran left-hander is now closing games for the Houston Astros.

3/25/25 Houston Astros RP Josh Hader Enters 2025 Atop All-Time MLB Leaderboards. In many ways, Josh Hader failed to live up to his massive price tag in 2024. As noted by Codify, Hader enters the 2025 season with a .158 career batting average against. No other MLB pitcher with at least 250 innings pitched has held opponents to a lower batting average.

3/23/25 Astros Reveal Four More Members of Opening Day Roster, Bullpen. The Houston Astros have one of the best closers in MLB in Josh Hader, and they boast an elite setup option on Bryan Abreu. When spring training began, one of the biggest questions facing the team was which pitchers would step up to earn spots on the opening day roster behind that top-end duo and righty Tayler Scott. According to a post on X by Chandler Rome of The Athletic, Rafael Montero, Bryan King, Steven Okert and Luis Contreras will break camp with the Major League club.

12/31/24 Can Houston Astros Afford To Not Address Bullpen This Offseason?. The Houstons Astros had one of the best starting rotations in all of baseball last year, but that unit did not receive much help from relief pitchers. The Astros bullpen as a whole was average at best. Houston will need their pitching staff to carry them a bit more this season. One thing that is certain is Josh Hader won't be leaving the closer role.

12/22/24 Astros Star Josh Hader Discusses Changes He's Making Ahead of Upcoming Season. The Houston Astros shocked everyone last offseason when they handed Josh Hader the most lucrative deal for a closer in Major League Baseball history. Not only was the contract something that was eye-catching, but the fact they already had Ryan Pressly in that role performing well made this move a bit confusing. Hader was good for the Astros, but he wasn't dominant. Houston was expecting to get the 2023 version of the left-hander when he posted a 1.28 ERA and a ridiculous 331 ERA+ that put him 231 percentage points above the league average.

12/21/24 Milwaukee Brewers Pitching Prospect Gains Serious Recognition From MiLB.com. The Milwaukee Brewers are known to be a frugal organization at the major league-level. In 2022, the Brewers traded away closer Josh Hader, and then they traded away Corbin Burnes last offseason. Furthermore, they dealt Devin Williams just two weeks ago in a deal with the New York Yankees. As a result of these trades, the Brewers are often left looking for internal answers to fill holes.

11/12/24 Astros given strong odds to land projected $152 million four-time All-Star. The Houston Astros have a strong history of adding premier talent in the offseason. Last winter, that meant locking in coveted reliever Josh Hader to a five-year, $95 million deal. In years past, they have added blockbuster free agents like Andy Pettitte, Michael Brantley and Roger Clemens. Now, Tim Boyle of FanSided is giving the team a strong chance of adding to that list by signing free agent first baseman Pete Alonso this winter.

11/05/24 Red Sox Predicted To Land Superstar Free-Agent Closer On $56 Million Contract. The Boston Red Sox bullpen obviously must improve this winter, but should that mean they spend big on a free-agent closer? Closers have been a market inefficiency for the past couple of Major League Baseball offseasons. Edwin Díaz of the New York Mets and Josh Hader of the Houston Astros signed massive contracts that could hamper their organizations in the next few seasons, especially if they continue on their respective downward trajectories. With that being said, the Red Sox don't have a clear-cut closer for the 2025 season, as veteran Kenley Jansen is likely to depart in free agency.

10/21/24 Chicago Cubs Rumors: Josh Hader trade would be a major risk. There was some surprise last offseason when the Chicago Cubs were not heavily involved in the sweepstakes for free-agent closer Josh Hader. Given the connection between Craig Counsell and Hader, the belief was that the closer could be an option for the Cubs as they looked to solidify the backend of their bullpen. Hader signed five-year deal with the Houston Astros worth $95MM. Ironically, it was Hader's deal with the Astros that likely pushed Héctor Neris toward signing the one-year deal with the Cubs.

9/19/24 Padres News: Former Closer Booed For Attempting Four-Out Save in San Diego. The boos rained down mercilessly as Josh Hader emerged from the Houston Astros bullpen in the eighth inning Tuesday to begin his multi-inning save attempt at Petco Park against the San Diego Padres. The former San Diego closer refused to appear in multi-inning save situations while pitching for the Padres, making this appearance as awkward as it was intense. Hader usually thrives in hostile environments. “I love this ballpark,” Hader said afterward.

9/18/24 Deadspin | Astros, Padres wrap up series, edge closer to postseason. Josh Hader's return to San Diego on Tuesday included a blown save that thrilled the sellout crowd, followed by a win for him and the Houston Astros in 10 innings over the Padres. Hader and his current club will try for a series win over his former team in the rubber match of a three-game set dripping with playoff implications on Wednesday. Hader's first season with Houston (82-69) has seen him convert 31 saves in 34 chances -- the third blown save came on a wild pitch on his first pitch to Jackson Merrill in the eighth inning Tuesday night -- and pitch to a 3.26 ERA with 97 strikeouts in 66 1/3 innings.

9/04/24 Josh Hader gets 100% real on Astros' inevitability. The Houston Astros struggled to begin the 2024 season. Astros closer Josh Hader never doubted the team. “I mean, we've had meetings… We obviously knew that we weren't playing good baseball early on,” Hader said on Foul Territory. One of the sayings, the cream always rises to the top, right?

8/28/24 Houston Astros Skipper Hints That Demoted High-Priced Reliever Could Return. The Houston Astros have not had their pitching staff put up numbers this season like in year's past. When they landed Josh Hader, the thought was this bullpen would be the best unit in the league like the Astros have produced previously, but the adjustment for their former closer Ryan Pressly into his new setup role took longer than expected. Rafael Montero was one whose issues were on full display with a 4.70 ERA that caused Houston to outright him to the minors after he was coming off a season where he finished with a 5.08 ERA. Considering he signed a three-year, $34.5 million contract ahead of 2023, the fact he was no longer part of their Major League bullpen was a huge cause for concern.
