3/13/25 Tigers deal for lefty reliever Bailey Horn in trade with Cardinals. About 30 minutes after veteran non-roster lefty reliever Andrew Chafin struggled for the second straight outing Thursday, the Tigers announced they'd made a trade for another lefty reliever. Detroit Tigers | Tigers sign pitcher Jose Urquidy, who is still rehabbing from Tommy John surgery They acquired 27-year-old Bailey Horn from the Cardinals for cash. If the name sounds familiar, the Tigers had claimed Horn off waivers from Boston during the offseason but they designated him for assignment to clear a roster spot for Gleyber Torres.

3/09/25 Tigers option Matt Manning to Triple-A Toledo. Detroit Tigers | Tigers bringing back pitcher Andrew Chafin for third stint with team Tigers' equipment manager Dan Ross wheeled a cart over to Matt Manning's locker and the two of them proceeded to empty the contents of his locker into the cart. Then the two of them exited the big-league clubhouse, taking Manning's gear down the hall to the minor-league clubhouse. Manning, the former first-round pick, was optioned to Triple-A Toledo on Sunday morning along with right-hander Tyler Mattison, who is still rehabbing after Tommy John surgery. “It got to the point where we'd already made the decision that he's not going to make the team from the onset,” manager AJ Hinch said.

2/25/25 Tigers spell it out for Andrew Chafin: There's opportunity here, but no guaranteed spot. AJ Hinch was asked before the game about getting Andrew Chafin in the same game as Chase Lee. Just like Hinch facilitated a live bullpen matchup between Jack Flaherty and prospect Thayron Liranzo — who were traded for each other last July — it would be the same for Chafin and Lee, who were traded for each other on the same day. “I want to get them in the same RV park,” Hinch said, laughing. The Tigers on Monday signed Chafin to a minor-league deal and a camp invite, marking his third tour of duty with the club.

1/12/25 Yankees 'Checked In' on This Veteran Left-Handed Reliever, per Insider. While the New York Yankees have made a ton of great additions this offseason, they're still without a single left-handed reliever on their 40-man roster. There's little doubt that the Yankees will address this by the time next season begins, and they have already been linked to several lefties such as elite Rangers hurler Andrew Chafin and former Yankees pitcher Tim Hill.

12/28/24 ANDREW CHAFIN & TIM HILL "HIGH" ON YANKEES BULLPEN LIST. The New York Yankees might be gearing up to shake up their bullpen with a splash of left-handed finesse, reportedly eyeing reliever Andrew Chafin as a recent top target. The 34-year-old became a free agent this offseason after the Texas Rangers passed on his $6.5 million option for 2025, and he could be the perfect addition to balance out the Yankees' righty-heavy relief squad.

All three are right-handed pitchers: Chase Lee, who was acquired from Texas last July in the Andrew Chafin trade; Tyler Owens, acquired from Texas in the Carson Kelly trade; and Tyler Mattison, a fourth-round pick in 2021 who underwent Tommy John surgery last March.

The Tigers traded Chafin to the Rangers at the deadline in July, receiving minor-league pitchers Joseph Montalvo and Chase Lee in return.

8/07/24 Rangers Pitcher Andrew Chafin Gave Iconic Quote About His Fit With His New Team. Texas Rangers relief pitcher Andrew Chafin was one of the prized bullpen arms available ahead of the July 30 trade deadline. Chafin, who amassed a 3.16 ERA in 41 appearances with the Detroit Tigers this season, was traded to the defending World Series champion Rangers to bolster the bullpen for the stretch run of the season. Chafin has given up two earned runs in 2.2 innings pitched since being acquired at the deadline, so it's hardly been a great start to his tenure in Texas. However, Chafin has really enjoyed being around his new teammates so far because of what he has in common with them off the field. 8/06/24 Rangers' Bruce Bochy says trade deadline pick up has 'no fear'. The Texas Rangers were predicted to be big sellers at the MLB trade deadline. Instead, the defending champions added Andrew Chafin from the Detroit Tigers to bolster their bullpen. “The biggest thing is that he has no fear and wants to be in that high-level situation.” Bochy has seen quite a few “no-fear” pitchers with the Giants and Rangers in his Hall of Fame career.

8/02/24 Texas Rangers' latest skid has left starting rotation a jumbled mess. Andrew Chafin trotted from the Globe Life Field bullpen to the pitcher's mound for his Texas Rangers debut on Friday night. It fits the state of the Rangers' pitching staff too. The Rangers' starting rotation — quickly, and inauspiciously — has fallen into an awfully low place.

7/31/24 Texas Rangers trade deadline grades: Veteran bullpen piece 'eviscerates lefties'. The Texas Rangers didn't make as big of a trade deadline splash this season as they did last, but they made some minor moves to help improve the roster as the club goes on a two-month playoff push to close out the season. See how the Rangers' moves are being graded by the national media outlets below, some of which rave about what new pitcher Andrew Chafin can do for the left-handed side of the bullpen, while others question if the Rangers gave up too much prospect-wise. 6/11/24 Defensive lapses cost Tigers in opener, lose 5-4 to Nationals in 10 innings. The Washington Nationals took advantage of some ill-timed defensive lapses to first tie the game in the eighth inning and then win it in the 10th, beating the Tigers 5-4 in the first of three at Comerica Park on Tuesday night. "Those are plays in close games that you look back on and want to do over again," manager AJ Hinch said. Misplay one: With the free runner (Jacob Young) on second base to start the 10th, lefty reliever Andrew Chafin struck out C.J. Abrams. Except the ball got past catcher Jake Rogers.

4/05/24 Detroit Tigers hold on for opening-day win at Comerica Park: live updates recap. Top 9th: Andrew Chafin comes in for the 9th and records two outs but also two walks. A.J. Hinch opts to go with Alex Lange to get the final out with two on, and he does so on a swinging third strike to make the Tigers winners in their home opener.

2/19/24 Lefty reliever Andrew Chafin has been all business in his second go-around with Tigers. In his first go-around with the Tigers in 2022, lefty reliever Andrew Chafin signed late, came to camp in less than great shape and ended up starting the season on the injured list. “When I talked to AJ in the offseason and we were starting to get the ball rolling with negotiations and stuff, it was like, if we get this thing going, I'm going to show up in the best shape of my career,” Chafin said.
