John Mozeliak, in his final deadline as the Cardinals' president of baseball operations, made three trades. According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the Cardinals "would have loved to move starters Sonny Gray and Miles Mikolas, and first baseman Willson Contreras, too, but all three told the Cardinals they would not waive their no-trade clauses." The St. Louis Cardinals are entering a rebuild of sorts, but they're also turning the team over to a new president of baseball operations. At the end of this season, John Mozeliak will be stepping down from his position and turning over the team to the well-respected Chaim Bloom. Under Bloom, there could be some big moves made. 7/30/25 | Willson Contreras Split? Cardinals Star Addressed No-Trade Clause. The St. Louis Cardinals are in a somewhat similar situation as they were in this past offseason. St. Louis has a few players with no-trade clauses. The Cardinals announced that they wanted to “reset” this past offseason, but Sonny Gray, Willson Contreras, Miles Mikolas, and Nolan Arenado all wanted to stay which changed the plans.
