8/05/25 Pozo delivers pinch-hit RBI single in 9th inning to send Cardinals past Dodgers, 3-2. The Cardinals had plenty of choices if they were trying to pick a star of the game on Monday night. There was starter Sonny Gray, who allowed just one hit over seven innings. There was Yohel Pozo, who once again came off the bench and delivered the go-ahead pinch-hit RBI single in the top of the ninth. In the bottom of the ninth, there was Lars Nootbaar with a diving, potential game-saving catch in right field.

8/03/25 Cardinals would've loved to have traded trio of vets at trade deadline. The St. Louis Cardinals didn't make any unexpected moves at the 2025 MLB trade deadline. John Mozeliak, in his final deadline as the Cardinals' president of baseball operations, made three trades. According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the Cardinals "would have loved to move starters Sonny Gray and Miles Mikolas, and first baseman Willson Contreras, too, but all three told the Cardinals they would not waive their no-trade clauses."

8/02/25 Cardinals Rumors: St. Louis Predicted To Cut Ties With Veteran Ace. The St. Louis Cardinals are entering a rebuild of sorts, but they're also turning the team over to a new president of baseball operations. At the end of this season, John Mozeliak will be stepping down from his position and turning over the team to the well-respected Chaim Bloom. Under Bloom, there could be some big moves made. FanSided's Christopher Kline recently predicted the Cardinals would try to trade veteran pitcher Sonny Gray in the offseason when Bloom takes over as the president of baseball operations.

7/30/25 Willson Contreras Split? Cardinals Star Addressed No-Trade Clause. The St. Louis Cardinals are in a somewhat similar situation as they were in this past offseason. St. Louis has a few players with no-trade clauses. The Cardinals announced that they wanted to “reset” this past offseason, but Sonny Gray, Willson Contreras, Miles Mikolas, and Nolan Arenado all wanted to stay which changed the plans. With the deadline looming, Contreras was asked about his no-trade clause and made it clear that he isn't going anywhere, as transcribed by MLB.com's John Denton.

Facebook Twitter Bluesky WhatsApp SMS Email Print Copy article link Save If Sonny Gray's struggles sound familiar, it's because he's just one of multiple Cardinals starting pitchers who are putting up some of their worst career numbers in recent weeks. Gray starts Tuesday for the Cardinals vs. the Marlins in a 6:45 p.m. first pitch at Busch Stadium, the second of a three-game series. In Monday's opener, the Cardinals won 7-1 behind Andre Pallante's seven scoreless innings. For Tuesday's starter, the right-hander Sonny Gray (10-4, 4.33 ERA), his problems have been relatively short-lived so far. With 14 earned runs allowed in his past two starts, it's just the second time in his 13 big-league seasons

7/29/25 Cardinals Star Off Trade Block; Staying Put In St. Louis. Will the St. Louis Cardinals trade Sonny Gray before the trade deadline? Gray has a no-trade clause that he made it clear during the offseason he would use. Gray has been outspoken about his intent to stay in St. Louis and MLB.com's John Denton reported on Monday that things haven't changed. Gray reportedly isn't interested in waiving his no-trade clause until at least after the 2025 season.

7/27/25 Could $75 Million Cardinals Ace Be Open To Trade?. The St. Louis Cardinals appear to have picked a direction with the trade deadline approaching. After losing two out of three to the Colorado Rockies and being swept by the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Cardinals seem prepared to sell rather than buy or hold pat. Katie Woo recently reported that they were fielding offers on Sonny Gray, who has a no-trade clause.

7/26/25 Yankees Linked To Trade Deadline Deal For Cardinals' $44 Million Star. The St. Louis Cardinals are seemingly going to be sellers at the trade deadline and there are a lot of players they could move. While players like Sonny Gray, Nolan Arenado, and Ryan Helsley are the most popular Cardinals trade pieces, there are a few under-the-radar options to look at, too. Redbird Rants' Thomas Gauvain recently suggested the New York Yankees would be the best fit in a trade for Cardinals hurler Steven Matz at the deadline.

7/25/25 Cardinals bats 'get going early' before relievers seal win over Padres. During a pregame meeting Thursday before facing the Padres at Busch Stadium, a Cardinals offense that was shut out Wednesday against the Rockies looked to begin their homestand by “trying to find a way to get going early.” When struggles by Sonny Gray left the Cardinals in an early hole, the response their offense was looking for was provided and proved to be pivotal.

7/22/25 Cardinals All-Star Duo Expected To Stay, Per John Mozeliak. The St. Louis Cardinals have decisions to make with the July 31st trade deadline coming up. St. Louis isn't having the start to the second half it wanted, but that doesn't mean everyone is going to get moved. In fact, president of baseball operations John Mozeliak shared that both Sonny Gray and Willson Contreras haven't changed their minds on waiving their no-trade clause at this time, as shared by MLB.com's John Denton. "Mozeliak described the Cardinals' plans as 'fluid,' saying a hot stretch in the coming days against the Rockies and Padres could shift the thinking," Denton shared.

7/19/25 Why Sonny Gray's task is a tall one Saturday for Cardinals vs. Diamondbacks: First Pitch. Gray and the Cardinals continue a road series at Arizona with Saturday's 6:15 p.m. first pitch at Chase Field. St. Louis lost Friday's opener 7-3 in a game that wasn't as close as the final score indicated. For Gray (9-3, 3.50 ERA), 12 of his 19 starts have come at home at the friendly surroundings of Busch Stadium. Handling a strong offense away from Busch is not something that has been asked of Gray much this season.

7/18/25 Insider Hints Cardinals Star Would Only Consider 2 Destinations. The St. Louis Cardinals have a bona fide ace on their hands but will that still be the case after the 2025 Major League Baseball trade deadline passes on July 31st? Cardinals ace Sonny Gray has been someone who has been floated in trade talks, but he has a no-trade clause and has made it clear he doesn't want to leave. MLB.com's John Denton weighed in on him and shared the two teams he could even consider waving that clause for are the Atlanta Braves and the Cincinnati Reds, although that isn't likely.
