8/05/25 Kodai Senga's lack of durability will surprisingly help Mets long-term. The New York Mets landed a huge upgrade for their starting rotation when they signed Kodai Senga as a free agent ahead of the 2023 season. A star in Japan before coming over to MLB, he had the skill to become a legitimate ace in North America, someone the Mets could build their starting rotation around for years to come. Senga also made the National League All-Star team, finished seventh in NL Cy Young Award voting, and was second in the NL Rookie of the Year Race, behind only Corbin Carroll of the Arizona Diamondbacks. Unfortunately, while Senga has regularly performed like an ace when on the mound, he has also struggled to stay healthy during his tenure with the franchise to this point, making only 47 starts across three seasons.

8/03/25 Is it time for the Mets to call up these top pitching prospects?. It was another short day at the office for a New York Mets starting pitcher on Sunday against the San Francisco Giants. After Kodai Senga worked a mere four innings on Saturday, Frankie Montas didn't fare any better on Sunday in the series finale. The righty lasted just 4+ innings against the Giants, allowing seven earned runs on seven hits (including a three-run homer), striking out three and issuing two walks in a 12-4 blowout loss for the Mets. It was the second straight rough outing for Montas, who gave up five earned runs on eight hits on Monday against the San Diego Padres.

8/03/25 Unsatisfied Mets' starter addresses recent struggles on the mound. For most of the season, Mets starter Kodai Senga looked like one of the best pitchers in MLB. Senga was a non-factor in the Mets' 12-6 win against the San Francisco Giants on Saturday. After 71 pitches, Mets manager Carlos Mendoza had seen enough.

7/20/25 Mets hope to have Tylor Megill throwing from a mound shortly. The New York Mets' starting rotation has received reinforcements in Kodai Senga and Sean Manaea this month, but another starter remains sidelined. Tylor Megill, who hasn't pitched since June 14 against the Tampa Bay Rays due to a right elbow sprain, has yet to begin throwing off a mound. 7/17/25 From Tokyo to Citi Field: Kodai Senga is a key part of baseball's international charge. In an interview with CNN's Jim Sciutto, the three-time NPB All-Star shared what the transition was like moving from Japan's Nippon Professional Baseball to Major League Baseball. “Of course, there are differences when playing baseball in a different culture, so I think it's really important to think about it and study it well so that I can take advantage of the good parts of the baseball here (in the United States) and the baseball over there (in Japan),” he told Sciutto.

7/11/25 New York Mets DFA veteran reliever amid Kodai Senga return. With Kodai Senga set to start Friday's game after being activated from the injured list, the New York Mets cleared roster space by parting ways with a veteran who saved the bullpen Thursday. As first reported by MLB.com's Anthony DiComo, the Mets designated reliever Rico Garcia for assignment Friday. The right-hander threw 35 pitches over the final 2.2 innings in Game 2 of Thursday's doubleheader against the Baltimore Orioles and did not allow a baserunner. Senga struck out four, walked two and threw 44 of 68 pitches for strikes.

7/06/25 How Mets' Kodai Senga fared in his rehab outing for Double-A Binghamton. In what might have been his only rehab start, New York Mets starting pitcher Kodai Senga wasn't particularly sharp. Pitching in his first live game since suffering a hamstring strain in June, Senga lasted just 3.2 innings for the Double-A Binghamton Rumble Ponies on Saturday. Despite not being at his best, Senga still threw 68 pitches, which was what the Mets were looking for their ace to do during this rehab outing. While it remains unseen whether the results of his rehab start will determine if Senga will pitch for New York before the All-Star break, his imminent return can't come soon enough.
