The 25-year-old Salas was recalled for the fifth time this season and is 0-0 with a 2.31 ERA and nine strikeouts in 11 2-3 innings.

The club purchased Salas' contract from Triple-A Memphis in the corresponding roster move to putting Kyle Lohse on the 15-day disabled list, because of an immediate need for another reliever. But with Lohse's turn in the rotation coming up on Saturday in Chicago, the team will call up a starting pitcher to take that spot.
"[Salas] is here for a couple of days," manager Tony La Russa said before Thursday's game. "He'll protect us after last night."
