Sample Trade & Recommendation

A lot of folks have been wondering exactly how this service works. Well, a sample of what we do may help out a bit.

Here is an actual trade that was sent to us in August of the 2009 season:

Two-team Trade:
Team A trades Wright, David (3B-NYM) (Salary: 66) Team B.
Team A trades Holliday, Matt (OF-STL) (Salary: 63) Team B.

Team B trades Suzuki, Ichiro (OF-SEA) (Salary: 35) to Team A.
Team B trades Bell, Heath (P-SD) (Salary: 12) to Team A.

Here is the recommendation from the RotoUmpire. All trades submitted to us are evaluated in a similar fashion to the info you see below:

General resolution:
With Wright losing his power this year, he's slipped a bit in overall value and is not really worth that much more than an Ichiro. Speed is equal, runs are close, and unbelievably, HR are close. Wright has an edge in RBI and Ichiro in BA. We'd rather have Wright simply because of the position he plays, but right now, you can't say that this fails one for one by any stretch. Holliday is not quite the stud from 2 years ago - or even quite from last year, but he's still a strong player. Still, with Bell being cheap and pitching lights out, coupled with the premium save value, one for one, we'd have no complaints about that in August. Overall, there is an edge going to BST, but it's not close to league altering. Wright and Ichiro are on similar value paces, and Bell has good value as a relatively cheap closer. August is the time of year we don't have much issue with sacrificing a little bit of performance for this year if there is a gain for next - and even if Bell weren't cheap, we'd still pass this considering that it would need a 2 to fail. We rate this deal a 5 and suggest it stands.

Individual Player Notes:
DAVID WRIGHT
It looks like Wright isn't about to rebound from his power outage any time soon, but he's still on pace to be a valuable 5 category player - and since there is no good explanation for the loss, it could come back at any time (though that looks less likely each week that passes). He's not as valuable as he was coming into the year, but he's still got significant value.

MATT HOLIDAY
Holliday has been nothing short of great since his return to the NL, and even though he's moved out of Colorado, his overall numbers on the year are not terribly far off his numbers from last year - though still behind his peak years. Regardless, he's a valuable 5 category player.

ICHIRO SUZUKI
Ichiro will always provide a great batting average and some solid speed to go along with a ton of runs scored. This year is no exception. He's already matched his HR total from the last 2 years, so a rare double digit HR total for him could be a possibility.

HEATH BELL
Bell has not missed a beat stepping into the closer's role and has very good value. There were rumors of him being dealt at the trade deadline, but that did not materialize, which is good for his value as he would likely be traded to another team and become a setup man instead of the closer that he is now. He's got a lot of saves and great secondary numbers and has excellent value.
