| 12/26/21 | Coach Tulo: Troy Tulowitzki's journey from Rockies star to Texas teacher. He had great expectations as a player and he does as a coach, too,” Texas coach David Pierce said. He’s all in, all the time. He didn’t come here to just be ‘around the game. Source: https://www.denverpost.com/2021/12/26/troy-tulowit... |
| 12/11/21 | Today in Blue Jays history: Troy Tulowitzki released, ultimately saving him $9-million. That was ultimately the end, and on July 25, Tulowitzki announced his retirement from baseball (which incidentally may have served to cost the Jays a little more; normally a player who retires ceases to be paid, but that would simply be what the Yankees were paying which came out of what the Jays paid him). While that may have seemingly closed the door on the Tulowitzki chapter of Blue Jays history, it turns out the story didn’t quite end there and instead there’s an interesting post-script. | 6/30/21 | Yankees potential trade partner: Colorado Rockies. I admit a morbid fascination with the Colorado Rockies. They don’t behave the way that other MLB teams do, with one of the smallest analytic teams in the game, and a team that is often also asked to be clubhouse workers. They’ve been able to produce legitimate stars, who often see their time in Denver end messily — Troy Tulowitzki and Nolan Arenado, to name just two. | 3/12/21 | For now, Trevor Story is the unquestionable face of the Rockies. But let’s take a moment here to appreciate the last 15 years of excellent shortstop play the Rockies have had with both Troy Tulowitzki and Trevor Story. It’s been a tumultuous 15 years, but shortstop has been a steady staple in the lineup and one of the reasons fans have stuck around. It’s arguably the most difficult defensive position to play and the Rockies have enjoyed a combined seven All-Star appearances, four Silver Sluggers and two Gold Gloves at shortstop during that time. | 1/07/21 | Thursday Rockpile: Are any current Rockies Hall of Fame worthy?. He’s fourth in all-time WAR for Rockies players, and will easily pass Troy Tulowitzki in 2021 and passing Larry Walker isn’t out of the question assuming Nolan remains in Colorado for a few more years. He’s four home runs away from passing Vinny Castilla for third in Rockies history and his eight gold gloves should give him a boost in the eyes of those who dock players for having their home games at Coors Field. | 1/06/21 | Rockies Mailbag: Nolan Arenado trade talks, NL West moves, hot stove news and more. I believe Arenado does want to be traded and the Rockies are investigating possible deals. I’ve talked with a number people in the baseball industry who believe that Bridich would have to engineer a trade similar to the one that sent Troy Tulowitzki to Toronto in July 2015. If you’ll recall, the Rockies had to take on shortstop Jose Reyes’ contract, but the Rockies ultimately ended up saving about $50 million.
