Madalan Keeper League Draft
March 1, 2005
Written by MadAlan

The Madalan Keeper League One held their draft early once more, in review of the results keep in mind each team has held players, most seven, and the league winner last year won on the last day of the season by one point. The league is a group of ex-Yahoo league winners all.

In the First Round, this is where I get last pick and first pick for the next round. 5 pitchers were chosen in the first 12 picks. The “steal” of 1st round was Fr. Rodriguez of the Angel’s as the 7th choice. Mr. Roger Clemens went in the 1st round 6th pick. Richie Sexson went as my pick.

Second Round
Hafner went first by me. Surprise pick of the entire Draft (drum roll please) Jason Bay 7th pick 2nd round. Pavano, Guardado, Dotel went in this round. Last pick of the second round may have been the best and a “keeper,” Harden.

Third Round
Wasn’t Rowand 5th pick – a great pick? Now I must trade for him. One pick later went Griffey Jr. went with the 6th pick in round three. I picked Mauer as the last catcher I would consider drafting - last on “my” board. All my other catcher choices were taken by now.

Fourth Round
D. Wright 3B NYM was the first pick of the round, by me, stupid pick and too early for a wasted pick. Especially because, in the same round, went players with names such as – Moises Alou, Hideki Matsui, Posada, Brian Giles and Sean Casey.

Fifth Round
J. Guillén was the first pick, Zack Greinke (SLEEPER) went third, M. Mussina next, and I took with the last pick of the round J. Reyes NYM. Why? They have made some big-time moves to win games and someone must score the runs. If he is planning on being healthy, this is the season for it, because the Met’s will be in the mix.

Sixth Round
I opened with the other NYM middle-infielder K. Matsui for the same reason as above, plus we were running out of draft able quality ‘starting’ middle infielders and I needed to do something fast.

Well it went another 20 rounds with the draft’s last pick being D. Meyer.

Some interesting picks and their locations:
B. Penny 3rd from last pick of the entire draft.
Picked in 28th round number two was R. Ankiel.
E. Hinske went in the last round 29, as the 8th pick.
The 5th pick of the 26th round landed J. Phelps – a super steal.
M. Morris was drafted in the 24th round, 9th pick.
Pettitte and Glavine went back-to-back in the 21st round.
D. Lowe was drafted high in the 15th round, six rounds before Pettitte and Glavine.
L. Overbay fell to the 15th round.
Centerfielders all drafted in the 12th round in order are: J. Lane, Bradley, A.Sanchez, Finley and A. Kearns.

29 rounds time’s 12 teams equaled 348 players picked in 1 hour 21 minutes.
